I dun wan it
This is probably the best way to tell the story. It’s mostly an action heavy story because Team Aegon has dragons and everyone else doesn’t. There is some politics, but those who don’t get dragons. Plus you get some really interesting parts of the story like Dorne.
Also since this is the start of the Targaryen story you can do the Doom of Valyria and establish Aegon’s Dream aka The Song of Ice and Fire.
The article mentions they have a screenplay, but no mention of George R R Martin. I do hope he gets the opportunity to expand on things with the screenwriter over the next year.
Tbh, i really hope they don’t show the doom of valyria.
This is where the original show started to fall apart, when they showed what happens to craster’s babies midway through season 4. The show proved in that instance that it didn’t understand nor respect the most fundamental rule of asoiaf: the maesters control the narrative AND we can only know what has been witnessed by humans who lived long enough to return to civilzation and tell the tale. We can only be shown what the maesters deem acceptable. Some loon returning from a horrible encounter with the supernatural, will not be accepted as credible. The books are stuffed to the brim with instances of people returning from some far off place with stories that cabnot be verified and therefore they are dismissed by the narrative unless they are a pov character. We cannot have that with Aegon the Conqueror, as he nor anyone who lived during his time is a pov character. He is only talked about in historical texts written by the maesters.
The maesters are, btw, very strongly anti magic and seek to discredit any and all rumours of magical events happening in their world.
With the doom of valyria, it is a historical fact that valyria fell into ruin, but the maesters have an invested interest in shushing the magical elements to it, even though some details have managed to slip out to the wider public.
Remember also that the maesters are not the friends of the Targaryens and the recorded history of the Targaryen dynasty is full of contradictory accounts and theories that the maesters put more stock into than others. They actively push the narrative in a certain direction, away from magic, away from the Targaryens. Events like what happened at Harrenhall also seem very suspicious as it should be very well known and well documented history, yet it is hushed and turned into a ghost story by the public while the maesters shrug and somehow have little to say about what happened. Wonder why…
So yeah, I really really hope they show restraint and dont show the doom of valyria. That would be a genuinely stupid choice that will kill the mystery and integrity of the world. It is entirely on purpose that we, as the audience, are left in the dark when it comes to many different happenings in the world of ice and fire.
I dont even feel good about them making a movie about Aegon the Conqueror as that part of westorosi history is borderling on myth already, but it is better to show his reign than to show what happens to crasters babies, so eh.
And for everything that’s holy, i never want anyone to ever show anything from Valyria. That place needs to only exist in the words spoken by characters. It will entirely lose its impact if it is shown on screen.
But honestly, with the current track record of these shows, I am not gonna be surprised if they piss all over the integrity of the world to give the mouthbreathers among audiences some big valyrian boom boom on screen. It would be about as disrespectful as whatever the fuck season 8 was.
I’ll see it as soon as the books are finished.
honestly sick
I can’t tell if this is good or bad
i like the new got content more than the original so hopefully the new movie is like the new stuff
