At first, he says, the terrain was “nothing too extreme,” so he assumed he was on the right path — until it became too steep and too smooth to count as a scramble at all. Going back down, backwards, wasn’t an option, and neither was staying still on the rock face, he said.

“That’s when I realized something has gone terribly wrong,” Gowryluk said, but he kept climbing, focused on putting his hands and feet wherever they would fit.

Even if Claude wasn’t used to plan the route itself, anyone who needs an LLM to know what supplies are needed shouldn’t have taken such a perilous route.

Yes, but if the route’s title isn’t already enough of a giveaway, they’re not going to know enough to properly research the route in ANY manner.

Did you guys not read the article? The kid clearly never intended to go on the Widowmaker route, Claude or not. When he realized he had gone off his intended route and onto the Widowmaker, he stopped and called for a rescue.

Sounds like the main trail was poorly marked and he didn’t follow the right trail markers or something.
