Was only there for a few weeks, but it is an absolutely fascinating country. The Ottoman Empire was one of history’s great societies, and if you have an interest in the origins of human civilization, you will get more bang for your buck sightseeing in Turkey than nearly any other country on Earth.
Interesting idea…supposed to be very, very cheap right now, from what I’ve heard. Might be something to look into…
It may come as a shock, but the original post was asking for a bit more nuance than “Are there any countries in the world that get cold in the winter?” Lol.
So funny you say that. I spent a few weeks there over the summer in the off season when I passed through Bulgaria. I was considering it as an option.
Do you have any sense of how expensive it is to stay during peak season? And maybe more importantly, whether there’s a culture of solo travelers passing through? Would be super cool to stay in hostels and meet people then go skiing during the day. I stayed only in hotels when I was there, though.
I think about going back to Eastern Europe constantly. The more time I spend back home, the more I realize I must have left for a reason.
Weirdly no one has ever asked me about it before. Not joking. I can see why people would be curious.
