574·4 months agoNot you again… genuinely convinced this user is a bot. He made this same argument a month ago on a now deleted post almost verbatim. I disputed his claims with evidence and they continuously moved the goalpost through the entire argument. either braindead or just software please ignore.

7·5 months agoIm encountering alot of AI created websites that explain concepts like “side effects of X pill” (a recent example) and there was basically no real medical websites in the top results, Just clearly AI using thousands of words to say nothing that I cant trust.
I was considering locally hosting a search engine to circumvent my need for them entirely. Search engine optimization seems like a nightmare, if they were trying to give me useful results. So im not sure if that would be a spend 5 hours to save 5 minutes situation.
As you and others said, Its been getting worse for years so its probably just a coincidence that its also profitable for AI.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do I make of this person I met online?English
13·5 months agoLets say your worst fears are correct and this “female”, is trying to keep you as an orbiter. Get over yourself, you had no claim to her time.
She was willing to spend time with you before, probably because she thought you were genuinely interested in her platonically and wanted you as a close friend. You caught feelings and are blaming her for her actions and assigning motives to easily explainable actions. you crossed the line, and she pulled away. Shes a social person and wanted many friends. Even if she was interested in you at some point, you said/did something that superseded that. Maybe she felt like you werent reaching out to her enough. but my guess is using the word female unironically to describe a person.
Seems to me that she “Intended” to hop online, play some games and talk to strangers. You should probably back off and re-evaluate how you view people especially women.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How are analogy and allegory distinct?English
6·6 months agoYeah! great read if you have the time. It can be used to explain alot of things since its a very open take on going from a state of ignorance or naivety to “seeing the light”. I think its an important read, since people still in the “cave” are hard if not impossible to “convince” with such a limited perspective on reality.
I further interpret this to mean If we want to pull our fellow man out of the cave, we have to help change their perspective and meet them where they are in their journey out.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•what does it mean being nice to your coworkers to you?English
19·6 months agoAs someone who is likely on the spectrum, they can tell you are… off, in some way. I think we trigger some sort of anti-sociopath response in people that just makes everyone who doesnt take the time to know you, just feel uneasy. Coupled with the fact that we are anti-social. Theyre going to get the feeling like you intend harm, emotionally or physically.
People have litterally told me, “I thought you hated me” or “youre allright, I thought you were an asshole”. The reality is I do not want to be here and Id rather be anywhere else. Coworkers try to “break up the routine” and have a chat. But when my schedule is thrown off, i go home later, I eat later, I have less me time, I sleep less, and I blame them.
All that being said, Ive come to realize that being “in tune” with coworkers IS part of any job. You dont have to like them, but smiling at them, holding doors, offering help, making jokes, and being generally upbeat improves overall efficiency. It takes no time at all, and It will keep people from feeling like they need to "confront"you to get a feel for who you are. Its stupid but its how they feel “safe”.
If youre busy, politely dismiss conversations and move on. If you cant thats on you, If they get upset/pushy its on them. For being more friendly, I find that watching TV shows about social groups and structure helps alot. Personal favorites include “The Good Place”, “Community”, “Star Trek”, “Golden Girls”. I cant think of more off the top, but maybe lemmy can help add some that resonate with you.

3·6 months ago“The allegory of the cave” Is another great example!
Its a fight against corps and bad actors. Why attack potential allies? Genuinely hate people like you. you arent better than these people, get a grip.
I think they were saying that, with the google pixel reference in the post. Graphene also has issues, certain apps and services flat out dont work, Its not for everyone. but it is infinitely better than stock imo.
Any place asking me to scan a QR for a menu, or need an app for parking probably wasnt worth it to begin with. Yes practicing privacy is not going to “feel” good thats exactly what they want. Just keep fighting back where you can, Make it as unlikely as possible for them to get what they want.
Every person In this comment section has leaks in their system. Unless they are some data security expert, theres simply no way to get by without being “exposed” at some point.
Keep up the good fight. Its worth it. Your eyes and your data are the new currency. Keep their hands off it.
Edit: there is alot of good info in this comment section people should upvote & downvote this post to balance it into being “contraversial” to get more eyes on it. Simply downvoting someone with a “bad take” Is imo unproductive.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•I actually kinda like when curse words are censoredEnglish
4·6 months agoThis reminds me of growing up with my older and younger sibiling, when my younger sib started swearing they had to get a feel for when It was necessary. Me and the older would just look at them with an eyebrow up when theyd swear in situations that did not call for it.
I feel like when someone cant talk without using swears and they are just filler words. censor them why not? Ive seen southpark and metalocolypse referenced and those are good examples of what i mean. If the swears arent necessary to convey the message then they were useless to begin with, and as you said we allready pretty much know what they were from context, I find this pretty funny aswell since it chops up what they are trying to say.
I feel the same way here on lemmy or on youtube etc. If youre a person who swears alot and it has “lost all meaning” just censor it to reach a wider audience. Some people just dont want to hear/read that type of vulgarity and it might even be an issue if there are children in the room or over their shoulder.

21·6 months ago“media litteracy” is becoming a problem and popular media is following the trend. They appeal to the uneducated, the media itself is calling you too stupid to read between the lines. There have always been gay characters in media, and If they wrote a better character youd know they were gay without It being so in your face about it. So yes its annoying. Youd hate a villian saying “Im the bad guy” all the same. which is the problem. They are litterally doing that not just with lgbtq stuff
my original comment was only meant to offend you IF you cant see the flaw in your reasoning, and want to continue being upset about gay and diverse shit in media.
If youre still lost, Idk man, I tried. I did call you stupid though Ill apologize for that, sincerely.

2·6 months agoIm confused. My point was that the purpose of the scene was exactly to get the child to ask the parent about a heavy topic ( lesbian mothers and IVF). This could very well be the first movie to represent this, im not sure why thats relavent. I would think its unhealthy for a kid to go about modern life without being at least a mild understanding of alternate lifestyles. Ignorance classically promotes bigotry, fear, shame.
Nowhere in the scene or interview does it make any claims that this is physically possible without outside intervention. Assuming snoop is living under a rock and doesnt know about IVF. It would still be important for him to learn and look it up for his own intrests and the intrest of the kid who is asking.

2·6 months agoAgain, If it annoys you ignore it. My previous statement was a conditional. IF you think this way THEN yes Im calling you stupid. There is so much classic and alternative media that have not been taken over by corporations. Complaining that the for profit companies are making profitable buisness decisions… what else is new? Are you such a slave to the corps that you cant find anything else to read, watch or play?
I never said that you are opposed to progressive media, im just calling you media illiterate. Seeing as you misinterpreted my entire comment… I wasnt far off.

3·6 months agoobviously there is a time and place for these conversations, a theater is not the place. but on the otherhand he litterally says he told the kid to shush and eat popcorn. Whereas your dad or my mom would have have explained on the spot. The only excuse I can see is that its his grandson and maybe he isnt sure how his parents would react to him teaching him this stuff. but to me Its a serious enough topic that it should be explained at least later by them. Even if he isnt homophobic dancing around the topic certainly is.
Childrens media often covers serious topics like, death, mental health, divorce, bullying, diversity, disabilities to name a few. Its litterally designed to make kids ask questions like this. I dont think hed Ignore any questions on these topics. Infact theres probably 100s of examples he could have used when his own kids or grandkids asked heavy questions. Why did this stick out in his mind? The interviewers first example of this was anxiety, which is a much more reasonable approach to this conversation of “should we be putting this stuff in kids media?”
Also I just watched the clip from buzz lightyear for additional context. and my previous statement assuming adoption was not an option because it depicts the pregnancy and raising of the child. So I was off quite off base there.

4·6 months agoOkay valid. but my point was that children arent stupid. I believe you as that 5 year old would have assumed adoption. I actually had this experience as a child, I knew a kid with two moms and from what i remember noone asked her how she was made. Questions were generally about whos the more masculine or feminine, or why they picked eachother and not just found husbands.
Maybe im way off base, and if i am i apologize. I just have to assume this story was manufactured to stir up contraversy. It reeks of the classic look what my kid wrote/drew to make some political point “even a kid understands this, see?”.

Louis Rossman had a video years ago that really got me looking at people differently. An obvious sign for him is how they treat animals. animals sadly are often the ultimate litmus test for ones morality. I find that respecting an animal, its boundries and its emotions is a thing only possible when youve developed a (imo) basic sense of empathy, that for pets and animals cant be expressed verbally.
Think of times when a person was trying to force an animals to behave in a particular way purely for self intrest. Or if someone you know outright denies the complex emotions of animals. I am by no means an animal rights activist and i often can be heard yelling at my dog to stop barking or etc. But i think even if we “own” them most good people dont think of pets as propperty, status symbols, or entertainment.
the moment i see behavior like this I try to correct and if they actively fight me on it or make no attempt to improve. I will disconnect from them entirely, not worth it. If thats how you treat family, i dont want to see how you treat friends.
