  • Lovely watch mate. I’m personally done adding (once my bel canto arrives this month-ish) with mechanicals and keep it to a 9-10 max for the collection. I’m starting to gravitate towards these “grail” / OUT THERE types (Freak X, Breguet Tradition 70xx, other “special” reversos) for an “exit” watch… because I don’t really want to replace anything in my collection but don’t want to grow without significance.

Anyway ignore the size haters - watch is fine and in a mirror would look normal. Plus fuck let people notice that shit (even though we know no one cares but us). Envious to have found something that special and meaningful…. I’m not gonna rush it I hope something speaks to me between now and turning 50 (I’m 41 ha)

    Cheers

  • That was my suggestion too. My favorite brand in the ~1k range with a massive catalogue of all kinds of watches. Many homages (like C63 seamaster GMT) but some unique ones like their Big Moon and Bel Canto. The newish Dune collection is awesome. You probably don’t need a XII since you have PRX. But hard to not find a watch you like and the price to quality ratio is the best of any brand I own (only better bang for buck I’ve seen in the $1k+ range is Horage but they’re too expensive for this post and too small a brand for most)

  • Well said. The “buying things is not a hobby” crowd is so boring. Bc of course it isn’t. They say it like it’s some counterpoint-brilliant-eureka concept. Meanwhile just like the OP stated, I learned and got into watches in 2020 and now even went as far as creating a little work station to unassemble (and attempt to reassemble) cheap watches I own. Connecting to people with a shared interest, learning about it, potentially learning a craft, AND collecting/buying definitely makes it a hobby.

They’re conflating the rich guy who buys status jewelry with no actual interest in horology with people that can genuinely claim it as a hobby. (And, again back to OP, my passion for it has diminished a bit from its peak)
