I hope things turn around.
I hope things turn around.
The point is there are those who, like myself and others, who requested account deletions on kbin.social. And they have not been processed. Over a period of time those numbers add up. Then you have whole instances that moved (kbin.earth etc)
I’m not sure of the accuracy of the user count for kbin, because account deletion requests, at least for kbin.social, are not being processed. <edited>
I reread the article again. I did see anything mentioned about employees working 2nd jobs on company time, nor was it among the reasons they were fired.
This is why we can’t have nice things… s/

I sure hope so. I’m tired of the monopoly ISP’s have for internet service.
Heat tracking software? Damn, that’s creepy as hell.
Agreed!
This series was well done! Exceptional acting, special effects, use of Japanese/English dialog, show of Japanese traditions and filming locations brought the book to life in a way that far eclipsed the 1980 miniseries.
Why is the NY Times tap dancing around this? It. was. a. lie.
I agree with OP’s comments but the article, not so much. Like OP the Gen Xers I know that are close to retirement with their financial ducks in a row do not prefer to be in the office. Being irreplaceable means you have the leverage to successfully negotiate a WFH arrangement.
I’m Gen X, and I recall similar complaints about us from the Silent and Boomer generation employees as we were coming up. So, it just seems like more of the same, with the added benefit of more awareness of what’s happening.
I don’t see the link to the article
No. It’s one of the things I like, that makes Lemmy different from Reddit. Why create a Reddit clone?
Yep, that’s an option.
Very well said!
I agree. That said, I’d like to see Amazon make Prime Video ad free for those already paying $140/yr for Prime. To me that would make the Prime membership extremely attractive for customers. But it doesn’t look like Amazon really gives a shit about that. This is about maximizing revenue and profit. Full stop.

"The New York Times is striking back against the threat that artificial intelligence poses to the news industry, filing a federal lawsuit Wednesday against OpenAI and Microsoft seeking to end the practice of using its stories to train chatbots.
The Times says the companies are threatening its livelihood by effectively stealing billions of dollars worth of work by its journalists, in some cases spitting out Times’ material verbatim to people who seek answers from generative artificial intelligence like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The newspaper’s lawsuit was filed in federal court in Manhattan and follows what appears to be a breakdown in talks between the newspaper and the two companies, which began in April.
The media has already been pummeled by a migration of readers to online platforms. While many publications — most notably the Times — have successfully carved out a digital space, the rapid development of AI threatens to significantly upend the publishing industry.
Web traffic is an important component of the paper’s advertising revenue and helps drive subscriptions to its online site. But the outputs from AI chatbots divert that traffic away from the paper and other copyright holders, the Times says, making it less likely that users will visit the original source for the information."
