Well I didn’t have to mask, but I also didn’t get my ADHD, bipolar or anxiety recognized/diagnosed until well into my adult life, lmao.
I’m a product of homeschooling, and cannot begin to tell you how detrimental it was to my adult life and being able to function in society.
100% of my socialization growing up came from church. While I have siblings who grew up to be very successful, they all stayed in the church.
It’s a cult. It’s child abuse. You are robbing your child of critical life experience and social development. It also makes it so that anyone escaping from growing up in that will have an extremely difficult time rebuilding their life outside of religion.
Meh, an RGB notification LED was still much more glanceable. I agree that it’s somewhat redundant, but I had OLED phones with notif LEDs and it was still nice.
I’ll be honest I haven’t been on reddit much aside from a couple communities since the whole shutdown, but it’s not that surprising tbh. Reddit is a huge target for astroturfing, they don’t have good protections against it, and Israel invests A LOT into stuff like that.
I also feel like anecdotally I’ve always felt like reddit was very pro-israel. I’ve been educated about many things because of reddit, but Palestine wasn’t one of them. (when I say educated about I don’t just mean reading comments, I actually do go to effort to read books etc., but often Reddit was a source of prompting for me to realize I needed to educate myself on something)
But yeah, it’s so refreshing using Lemmy. Really reminds me of when I started using Reddit, but more mature.
I’ve never gotten why Brave got popular in the first place. I downloaded it once and uninstalled within 3 minutes.
Cromite and Waterfox are all I’ll ever need.
Ah I see, ty
If you’re on Android why not just use revanced or Newpipe? Both are excellent and I haven’t had issues with revanced since this change.
Would love to see the military force MS to contribute to WINE development until all govt apps work on Linux.
I think it’s a bit of a stretch to say that any hair that is ‘relatively long’, ‘not geometrical’, or ‘unnatural color or variation’ is “clearly part of black culture.”
Good thing that’s not what I said. The policy doesn’t exclude all black hairstyles, but many of the hairstyles that would be excluded are sources of cultural/personal identity for black Americans.
it doesn’t seem to be written to target any particular culture
Literally what I spent my first comment explaining - it doesn’t have to be written to target a specific culture to be a racist policy. Oppression is not determined by the intent of the oppressor, but by the lived experiences of the oppressed.
By implementing a hair policy that excludes styles and lengths which are clearly a part of black culture and a way of expressing identity in America, the policy is racist. Whether or not the intent was racism, it still has the effect, making it a racist policy. It can also be discriminatory towards queer people and other cultures.
Oh I agree completely. I also think a lot of people just don’t realize that many of the things they think of as part of Windows can be tweaked or removed, so they just sit there assuming they have to live with it when there’s a fix that most people could implement if they google a how-to guide (or they could ask their nerdy friend).
I love helping friends set up Windows installs, because they’re always so shocked at how little clutter there is and how well everything works. At the same time it makes me mad that all of that is necessary at all, and I’m swearing at Microsoft the whole time I’m helping them.
It’s a single registry key or a single group policy edit, and I’m not talking to the average user, I’m talking to Lemmy users.
I’m saying as far as annoyances in windows go, this is incredibly simple to change if you are at all familiar with tweaking advanced windows shit.
Problem is, there’s a lot of really specialized, critical software, that is provided by vendors and throws an absolute fit with any change. You could maybe run Windows in a VM, but it may not work with the specialized hardware and networking gear being used, and now you’re spending a bunch of extra time and money setting up a vm if windows inside Linux, which means you also have to train everyone on how to use the VM, adds another management/security issue, and adds another point of failure.
If they ever switch (the entire govt should, it would be so awesome to see the govt resources put into Linux development instead of M$ pockets) it’d have to be a very gradual process, and windows would still be around decades from now for legacy systems. (If the US hasn’t imploded in civil war or the planet melted by then 🫠)
Yeahhh here’s to hoping someone AURs it 😅
I mean for sure but I play games with my nephews so for me dual booting Windows is worth it, and it’s certainly something to consider when deciding how you’re gonna set up your system, as much as that sucks.
I hope it’ll change on games that do, or they’ll set up a workaround for Linux, but for now if you care about a game that uses it, ysk beforehand so that you can decide whether to dump that game or dual boot.
You can remove the Internet search and make it do normal search pretty easily. I know I know you shouldn’t have to, just saying putting an hour into cleaning Windows is worth.
Hope you don’t play anything that uses Windows kernel-level anticheat 🫠
I’ve yet to get medicated. Last time I tried I had the wrong diagnosis and ended up in grippy socks, and I’m currently living by myself, so starting new meds is kinda frightening tbh.
I did drink/smoke way too much as a coping mechanism, because yakno meds that help someone be able to function like a normal person are EVIL, but letting ur kid go undiagnosed and untreated is so fucking healthy for their long-term mental health.
My parents also managed to fuck up my math track to put me a year behind, and when I found their error and tried to catch up, they didn’t support at all.
Homeschool parents are [very often] imbeciles.
