Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•What are the most reliable ev models on the market?
2·26 days agoMy first car was also a 4 cylinder. Basically 6 horsepower (actually just looked it up and it had 103 hp.)
I still drive my Leaf like a grandma on her weekly grocery run. I just don’t think we should have powerful cars. Ideally, we’d just have better public transit and more walking. But at least in the short term, smaller cars that won’t kill pedestrians.

3·26 days agoI’m also happy with my 2019 Leaf Plus. I only wish I had not paid extra for the plus and instead just rented a car for any longer trips.
The additional cost isn’t worth it, I so rarely drive more that 50 miles a day.
I like the knobs and buttons, my Leaf isn’t connected to the Internet, but it has Android Auto. I think it’s too big, but most other people in my home country (US) think it’s a tiny car.
I’ve driven about 35,000 miles since mid-2020.

Because even our terms for ourselves are inherently colonial. The Americas are two separate continents, we aren’t the only Americans.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•How much proof is there that smart tvs and phones listen to you?
1·1 month agoI worry that you’re making AI out as the good option, but really they are both awful, AI is simply less mature. There hasn’t yet been time to inject ads into generated responses (but it’s coming), and the users don’t yet feel the surveillance of each of their prompts.
And are you saying users don’t get any functionality from their smartphones? I find my smartphone more helpful than an LLM that spits out statistically likely responses while destroying our water, air, and electricity prices; stealing intellectual property from small artists who can’t fight back; and removing the humanity in peoples’ interactions.
