I don’t know if it’s the league that’s ordering them to behave the way they do, or if it’s some kind of unwritten code amongst the referees, but it’s so odd that NBA referees in general don’t express their human side and admit to their own mistakes. This is actually bad for them. As far as I know, the NBA is the only league where the referees are presented as a bunch of emotionless often-malfunctioning robots at best and tantrum-prone two-year-olds at worst. So long as they keep insisting on this image, rather than presenting them as normal mistake-prone humans like the rest of us, the fan frustration will eventually get to a point where they’ll demand that they be replaced by actual AI (which, when the technology arrives, will ultimately be cheaper for the league anyways).
