This guy is entrenched in his own sexism and racism, and when it’s pointed out, he deflects and defends it with denials and faux erudite bullshit as if he’s somehow elevated by it.

Ugh, fuck off. You’re not some arbiter of music intellectualism, and you just proved it to the world in a handful of sentences. All he managed to do here is to undermine his and his publications credibility.

This racist misogynist’s comments aside, hassn’t that always been the primary motivation of the magazine, promotion of rock/pop? Is that supposed to be an insult or derogatory?

“music” and “the music industry” (aka the majors) are two very different things.

I don’t understand what you mean. We solved sexism and racism, didn’t you hear? These are no longer problems that actually exist in the world and we’re all just whining about nothing.

What an absolute turd of a statement. Says a lot about a person and any organization they might lead.

Meanwhile it’s the same type of person campaigning for defunding of public libraries and schools.

I think you mean “defunding” and I agree. Plenty of black and female artists made excellent work in that space and it sounds like her book may be one of the dying cries of her bigoted generation’s values.

Yep, edited my comment shortly after posting because I’m too cool to proofread until after I post. 😎

But yeah, this is definitely a value I’m hoping can die with a generation. But also not holding my breath.

Don’t hold your breath. We’ve been waiting for this sentiment to go away via attrition for a couple hundred years. There are always plenty of young bigots, and public sentiment has just become a swinging pendulum.

We outnumber them. We need to stop being victims of our own apathy.

Don’t sell humanity short- we are getting better. When my mom was born, women weren’t allowed to get credit cards without the permission of a man. Ruby Bridges is still alive and in her sixties. People forget how recent the Civil Rights era was. We’ve made a lot of progress in recent decades and while we still have a long way to go, we are improving.

I guess Wenner is such a fan of these guys that he’s lost all perspective. I mean, I’m a big Stones fan myself, and I think Mick Jagger is pretty clearly a smart guy, but a philosopher?

All I’m hearing is “a bunch of straight white dudes all hanging out in a locker room not being gay while getting it up the ass.”

Everyone knows you’re not gay if you don’t cum hands free.
