If you don’t add a WiFi network and don’t plug in ethernet then you can also make a local account.

I had to create new registry keys and relaunch the OOBE with special flags to get around it in windows 11. Such a pain in the ass.

I did it once some how making a Rufus USB stick but next time I used Rufus I either didn’t get a settings prompt or it just didn’t work.

Pro tip: You can hit space tab space tab... to quickly cycle through them all.

I will say though, it is mighty refreshing to go through a Linux installer now.

Can’t find it anymore, but I remember someone did a DNS analysis and they are even pinging McAfee servers, before you open any apps.

Not just installing. When updating, sometimes it tries to reset the options and change my default browser to edge.

Edge would ALWAYS get on the way with its stupid search bar widget. They tried to improve their shitty outdated piece of crap internet explorer that nobody was using and they ended up with a modern shitty piece of crap that is edge.

Didn’t Bill Gates leave Microsoft in 2008? Other than that, yeah.

Also this was one of the early windows 10 updates lol. Like 2017 or something.

How it feels to install windows in 2023 is to drop to a hidden shell and run some commands to create a local account instead of a Microsoft account to log into your computer. Fuckin disgusting.

all these will be reinstated in the next update and all the unsent locally collected information will be sent with the consent you gave by not preventing your system from updating

Bill hasn’t been associated with Microsoft decisions in like 15 years. Yes he still owns a shit load of the company, but he’s not the CEO, he doesn’t even sit on the board. He sits in his 16,000 square foot lakefront Medina, WA mansion and gets richer.

Public consciousness skipped Ballmer’s CEO era and apparently Satya’s name is too difficult to remember.

I actually somewhat enjoy using Windows 10 after using a debloat tool and adding a package manager. Windows 11 is still unbearable though.

I feel like the only think I like about windows is that everything works in terms of graphics and plug and play. Plug and play has been good to me on Linux for a while though.

I still get graphics issues on fedora and Ubuntu on my integrated graphics chips.

As a side note, you can use O&O ShutUp10++ to do all these settings quickly so you don’t have to hunt around all the menus. It has presets too IIRC.

Also it works on Windows 11 too despite the name.

I installed it in VirtualBox because I wanted to try if a neovim plugin worked with it.

The most awful experience ever. It’s so bad it’s tragic, and screams surveillance late stage capitalism. If people don’t notice that, it’s because they have slowly become used to it under the windows regime.

I think the day I have to reinstall Windows on my Desktop will be the day I’ll replace it with Linux. Already use it on server and laptop but stuck with Windows for gaming. Anyone know if SteamVR works on Linux?

I got it to launch but I only got about 15 FPS.

So it is at least possible. My PC is pretty outdated so it might work for you if you have a good graphics card with good drivers
