Liz Cheney, a former Republican congresswoman and longtime opponent of abortion rights, on Monday condemned Republican-imposed bans on the procedure and urged conservatives to support Kamala Harris for US president.

Cheney was speaking at the first of three joint events with the vice-president in the suburbs of three swing states aimed at prising moderate Republican voters away from party nominee Donald Trump. She has become the Democrat’s most prominent conservative surrogate and is rumoured to be in contention for a seat in a potential Harris cabinet.

At the first event in Malvern, a Philadelphia suburb, against a blue backdrop that said “a new way forward” and red one that said “country over party”, Cheney suggested that Republican-led states have overreached in restricting abortion since the supreme court’s 2022 Dobbs decision ended it as a constitutional right.

No, fuck that. Do not let this neocon anywhere near power, we saw what happened the last time a Cheney was in the cabinet. Use her for the campaign if you think it’ll help but dump her ass as soon as we win. She has nearly no political capital, she even lost her primary and is out of the house, there’s no reason to court her.

if the Democrats win, the aftermath of the election will bring forth a hoard of former Republicans with no home. do you want them courted by more right wing fascist fuckheads we know nothing about, or the right wing fascist fuckheads who, at least for now, decided full fasch was not their best option?

the Republican herd needs a soft landing to mitigate future issues. as bad as the Cheney’s are, they still have cachet in some important conservative circles. in this fucked up moment, the price might be worth it.

Nope. Better start planning grassroots leftist initiatives for midterms if you want any hope for an actual progressive administration.

If they can get enough Republicans to jump to democrat, the Republican party will die and then in a couple election cycles the Democrats would fracture into two parties, one more liberal and the other more conservative. This is probably the best outcome in a 2 party system.

It’s not the best outcome because if we let the Dems split, it’ll be between fascists and neocons again, and we’ll end up back where we started. Leftists need to start organizing now so that we can shift the Overton Window left, because if we wait for Dems to fracture the window will keep shifting right.

I initially agreed with that first post, but you make a lot of sense. If Republicans have nowhere to go after Trump loses, they’re going to continue to be radicalized by more extremists in their party. We need to extend some sort of fig leaf, but it has to come with conditions. Like admitting that Trump lost the 2020 election, that would be a good start. And admitting that January 6th was a coup. If we just allow them to come back like nothing happened, they’ll just do this shit again next election.

What circles, people are acting like Liz Cheney was a big leader in conservatism like Romney or something but she couldn’t even win a Senate race. She lost her last primary in a blowout this time around and won’t even be returning to the house.

The only thing your average person knows her for is her last name and that has become associated with Iraq and war profiteering and tainted in the last decade. Yeah you may pick up a couple middle age bush Republicans in the suburbs but your alienating even more people who despise the Cheneys and everything they stand for. Tons of progressives and Arabs are already staying home this election because of Kamalas Gaza policy, bringing on the war criminals daughter would only make that worse.

No…throw those fuckers in the dumpster fire they created and make sure they’re never in power again. We have to end the Republican party in the next 4 years, not fucking cuddle them.
