How did the Capitol Police stop the violent insurrection on Jan 6th?
The Wikipedia article for the attack has a pretty thorough summary of the events, most aspects of it are pretty well documented as far as I can tell. Essentially, the police were able to slow them down while congress members were evacuated to more secure areas. After a woman was shot breaking into a barricaded chamber door, much of the attack seemed to dissipate, and not long after further reinforcements were able to help clear the rest of the building. Trump then told his supporters to go home, knowing they had been routed.
Are you referring to insurrectionist Ashli “Traitor” Babbitt?
While some have attempted to turn her into a martyr the truth is she, and the others around her, were doing something very illegal. And if they had all been non-white individuals they would have met with far more persuasive force than a few capitol police officers as was demonstrated with the BLM marches.
It’s funny when supporters of the attack try to say that they were unfairly brutalized by police, like we didn’t watch endless clips or witness directly people pummeled by the police for weeks for substantially less.
And that these are the same people with back the blue bumper stickers and blue line flags.
Oh wait i forgot that is only to show they support maintaining the status quo of systemic injustice and murder being carried out against minorities by people with qualified immunity.
Fortunately, a lot of those insurrectionists were just along for the ride. It was a mindless mob with no real strategy or technique. Their numbers were enough that they could plow through barricades and trample officers, but they didn’t have a goal. Sure, there were some people there who did have specific goals to accomplish, and those people used the mob to their advantage, but as a whole, it was just a LOT of people trying to get into someplace they shouldn’t be.
Had each of them been armed with a single plan of action, we might be in a pretty scary place right now.
I agree, it annoys me that people act like this was a 9/11 scale attack on our government.
Was it bad? Yes. Do I disagree with their motivations and actions? Yes. Do I think they actually planned to actually overthrow anything? No. As shitty as it was it wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been. Imagine if even 1/10 of them had planned to bring/use rifles, molotovs etc.
If they wanted to throw down they would have, but they didn’t, and I’m thankful for that. Same goes for the Capitol Police.
Their laughable incompetence and chaotic organization doesn’t change their intentions to stop the legitimate certification of the election. This was absolutely a massive attack on our Democratic system of governance. The fact that it was attempted by disorganized idiots doesn’t change that fact.
We got lucky.
Methodically and with difficulty.
There’s some good writeups that go into detail about the timeline and what different players were doing at different stages. The Capitol Police didn’t get the backup they needed when they needed it because of politics. Then suddenly the backup was made available when senator’s offices were being stormed.
I mean… from what I saw …they didn’t really… /S

The question is “how?”. The rest is context and not in question.
