Spot On About The bucks

regarding this tweet by NoTechBen on twitter who says

Glad the Bucks won — scrubs are fun — but pretty disappointed in the main guys this preseason. Giannis needs to accommodate Dame more. 3 threes and insisting on taking the ball up with Dame on the floor is just inexcusable. And I have…questions about the defensive approach.

Giannis got his coach and got his trade. He’s going to come in for more criticism if both don’t work out better than they have in the preseason, and it’s going to be legitimate.

I don’t think Giannis needs to be initiating any offense when dame is in there. Giannis will be great with or without the ball. Dame needs the ball, and get get Giannis all of the looks he needs. Let me be coach, MIL.

At the very worst, Giannis the the second best player on earth. He won a title with the ball often in his hands. Saying that Giannis shouldn’t initiate ANY offense is an insane statement.

Could be Dame wants Giannis initiating so he can play off-ball as a scorer. I know Dame has talked about how much he loves that dynamic between Draymond and Steph.

But Dame very clearly isn’t Steph and even though I think he’s a solid playmaker, Giannis clearly is not Draymond either.

Dame is much closer to steph than you think. The bucks don’t have the same motion offense that the warriors have, but dame can shoot like steph and can handle the rock just as well

It’s preseason and new teams need time to gel.

That said, I think people are really overstating the impact of adding Lillard. I have a lot of concerns about what the Bucks did and it falls on deaf ears amidst the hype. This team is going to be bad on defense, and as good as Lillard is on offense, they already had a guy to go to in crunch time when you needed a bucket so much of what Lillard brings to the table is redundant.

I’m not convinced Bucks even make it to the ECF for the much hyped series against Boston. That defense is going to cost them.

The best defensive team in the league last year started Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland. I think we’ll be ok.

Their D rating in that series was 111.1, which still would have been good for second best defence in the league last year. 0.5 points behind the regular season Cavs.

Maybe this is profound basketball knowledge for you or something, but there’s actually two ends in a basketball game. A good defence doesn’t guarantee winning if the offence is shit. Lucky for us, we have Giannis and Dame Lillard. I hear those guys go alright offensively.

Please do not compare regular season stats to playoff stats. There are no Charlotte’s or Washingtons in the playoffs so don’t start with the “Knicks we’re a juggernaut” foolishness.

Bro. This is not difficult. The best regular season defence had shit defensive guards. That defence continued being good in the playoffs, despite the loss because of a bad offensive and rebounding performance. Neither of which are likely to be issues for the Bucks. What are you not understanding here?

Knicks had the 3rd best offence in the league last year btw.

So your whole argument is based on what the Cavaliers and the Knicks did in regular season? How does that address changing out a very good two way player for an offensive only player to a team that was already getting handled defensively in its very last playoff series?

Hey quick, how is it that we were getting handled defensively? Explain what went wrong for us. In detail. See if you can add 2 and 2 together. It’ll be a challenge, but I believe in you.

Omg it’s preseason who cares. The bucks are still the overwhelming favorite to come out of the east and if they don’t it would be a massive disappointment.

We are among the favorites. Definitely not overwhelming. We aren’t the LeBron-led Miami Heat or Jordan Bulls.

It’s not like they’ve ever had solid offensive scheming from the coaching side either.

As Chuck said, they are the best dumb team he has ever seen.

They won a chip off a 7ft point forward demolishing teams and solid defensive players that very occasionally did not brick. Dame or Giannis alone will win games they have no right to, throughout the year.

Giannis needs to take less shots and play harder on defense, both he and Luka need to just stop taking any and all forced/bad shots and defer a lot more to Dame and Kyrie imo.

This isn’t some I need mine to get paid vs he wants his to get paid relationship. They’ll work it out no doubt. They’ve wanted to play together for bit. It’ll take some time tho.

Dame has admitted to being out of shape.

Giannis was cleared for sprints after the surgery, just 20 days ago.

They will be rusty to begin with.

Giannis and Dame have played I believe it’s now two games together? Two or three? Preseason games and not with the full compliment of starters until today? Let’s slow down a bit. It’s not gonna be a flick of the switch for either Dame or Giannis. It’s all very new for both and it’ll take a little time to adjust. Dame clearly remains a little rusty and doesn’t completely have his legs under him since he admittedly wasn’t doing a lot in the summer.

The coaching questions are fair since Griffin is a new coach, although I trust the principles Stotts instilled will work out in the long run…the defense questions are fair because they’re playing a more aggressive scheme than the one that has worked so well over the years and doing it with Brook who’s aging and Dame/Beas who are a pretty weak combo. Brook slides his feet OK on the perimeter and we know Giannis can but at their best the Bucks are a team that takes advantage of their twin towers in the paint and funnels offensive players into Giannis and Brook. That’s been the name of the game and it’s worked. We’ll have to see how Griffin and his principles work for Milwaukee. The stakes are extremely high for him and he can’t really afford to screw this up with the Bucks and their timeline being what it is.
