I set a 4 year reminder for this post so I could look back at the replies in the future.

I just recently got the notification and figured that others here would want to see how things turned out. It obviously goes to show how uncertain things are in the league, but also not to get too down on young prospects who have a down year, because there’s always a possibility that they will improve.

That draft class has turned out great even with the runaway best prospect somehow regressing into a fringe NBA player.

The Simmons hate is ridiculous on this sub. Give the guy a chance to come back, he was a genuine star before injuries

I’m rooting for him but that “major back surgery” excuse has a shelf life and Simmons sure as fuck sounded confident going into last season when he showed on JJ Redick’s podcast to hype himself up.

Excuse? “major back surgery” in quotations like all back surgeries aren’t a real issue. jesus

So many people on here think his injuries and surgeries are somehow fabricated when you start talking to them. The media surrounding NBA has done a really poor job talking about just how serious the injury and surgery were.

yeah he’s gonna be great this year. He’s been moving great in preseason and is playing aggressively. I think if he’s healthy the Nets have a solid shot at being a 4-6 seed.

Idk when r nba is going to be ready to discuss this, but the fact that Simmons has been dogshit since he missed time for the back injury is evidence that the injury was real and severe

I mean he regressed in historic fashion from his peak play, especially considering his tools and perceived ceiling. It’s not like he regressed when he hit 32 either, dude fell off the face of the planet after that souls crushing Hawks series when he was 25.

It’s closer than ppl might say. Put buddy in Boston instead and they won’t be much worse if at all, especially this year. Brown isn’t Murray or anything or even a guy like Brunson. He really benefits from the opportunity in Boston where he gets to shoot shots like a first option (tied with Tatum in fga per game last year and shot more per game in the ecf) and have no playmaking burden. In every single playoff year, Boston has been better with him off the floor statistically. His decision making hurts them tremendously. He’s a good scorer, that doesn’t mean he’s a good player. Also isn’t anything great defensively. He can score yes but that doesn’t mean it’s impactful. They had a better net rating when it was just Tatum on the floor than when both brown and when Tatum were on the floor, and were worst when it was just brown.

Not exactly I just watch basketball. Watch every single Boston playoff game. If brown was any kind of good player he wouldn’t have been outplayed by Caleb Martin for 7 straight games in the ecf. Why do u think Boston went and got kp and Jrue? Bc brown can’t handle leading a second unit.

JB is kind of weird, you watch him and he passes the eyetest as a star but a lot of impact stats have him as like the 5th-8th best Celt the past few years, which is rarely the case with stars of his age (although LaVine has a similar issue).

It’s because he trades minutes at the wing with Tatum. Impact stats are largely based on on/off and when the guy you’re switching off with is better than it will always depress the impact stats. Brown would be the first or second most impactful player on the C’s (depending on White) if Tatum didn’t exist.

They both signed extensions at the same time, which is why they were compared. At the time, it was pretty clear that Brown was better, but a reasonable discussion is who was the better asset after their respective contracts were signed.

Yeah, he nailed it even if it wasn’t a direct answer. At the time, Jaylen had more upside due the age difference and being a wing who could slash and defend, therefore adding a potential playmaking/3 game, with Buddy Hield he was kind of capped with the Klay comparisons at his ceiling, great off-ball player and capable on the defensive end.

I know he was a really old rookie but the fact that Buddy Hield is 30 now is still so insane to me

I don’t have anything to say about Jaylen that hasn’t already been said, but tbh I’ve also been disappointed by Buddy Hield’s career over the last few years. Not that he’s a bad player at all, it’s just… after that season in Sac a few years ago, I really thought he was gonna be an All-Star and the league’s next great shooter. I knew he was 26 but I really thought another step up was coming

Guys please stop talking about Jaylen Brown. He’s so mediocre it’s crazy.
