Looks like the start of another great season for Maxey, who is fast becoming the only bit of good news for a Sixers locker room in flux.

But I do wonder, can Maxey be more than that? Maybe he can be the franchise player that the Sixers need for a fresh start? And if that question is valid, can we go further and say: might as well get the most out of an Embiid trade and start the Maxey process asap

Basically am just curious about how the fans rate Maxey. Is he a real deal like Ant, or just another young all star in the making?

I mean, or they can just trade Harden already and let Maxey take the keys. Why do they need a fresh start. Prob not going to get equal value trading last years mvp

How ceiling is probably Dame. Worse finisher better defender. Not good enough to be the number one guy on a title team

Hard to build around a cornerstone when we have one. The Embiid criticism is warranted, but overall we all know he’ll be a monster (after a few weeks into the season) until the second round so for the next few months - let’s enjoy it

His ceiling is probably current Devin Booker. We haven’t seen what is he like as the first option yet.

Harden is a lot more different. Even though Harden is a scoring juggernaut, his playmaking is really elite which I don’t see Maxey being.

Yeah not even Luka is worthy of the next Harden title yet. Maxey becoming Booker would be great, but that’s still not good enough to win as a first option without extraordinary luck or a 1b player+other great teammates. If I were the Sixers FO, I would ride it out with Embiid for 2-4 more years.

Problem with that is Embiid turns 30 in March and has a $59m Player Option in another 2yrs.

At that point Embiid will be 32yrs old (turning 33 mid season) while looking for big money with a history of injuries and now getting into the twilight years of his career.

If the Sixers strike out this Offseason with their Cap Space they should really look into flipping Embiid’s final 2yrs(+1yr Player Option) to a team like OKC.

Trading Embiid to OKC would give them their 2025 1st back which has Protections until 2026.

Then the Sixers could take a 2yr mini rebuild before they have to worry about owing the Nets a Top 8 Protected 1st in 2027/28.

Or they could go the Miami route and try to get Bam if they want to continue to compete since OKC owns Sixers Top 6 Protected 1st in 2025 and Top 4 Protected in 2026. Then the Nets 1st’s that Philly still owes them.

Tbf, I don’t think people saw Harden as an elite distributor early in his career.

These second option players all look like world beaters until they become the first option. Look at what happened to brown when tatum got injured last playoff… it is easy for maxey to go off when embiid gets all of the attention and opponents gameplan for him

      This 100%.

You get a hell of a lot more freedom on the court when defenses can’t collapse on you without the fear of Embiid then being wide open for an easy bucket.

Can’t they just say like: hey guys Tyrese is our first option.

Then have teams have attentions and gameplan for him and have Embiid wide open and shit.

My dream is for embiid to cut back on shots and scoring a good bit and focus on defense for the playoffs but we don’t have the depth and roster for that

Herro, Poole, Simons, Maxey… only difference is that Maxey didn’t extend because he wants Maxey money… He wants that Lavine-level overpay

Maxey has another step he must take as a playmaker to be someone you can truly build around going forward. He’s not quite there yet but he is definitely improving. He’s more an awesome second option scorer at this time. What was great was seeing he playing well off Embiid last night as their chemistry has been slightly ragged at times.

He had 8 assists last night but if you watched the game you’d recognize the reads weren’t the most advanced. He’s not a high leverage playmaker at this time yet. I think it’s important to the Sixers success this season he continues to grow in that department and especially going forward when Harden isn’t in the picture.

    No.

High volume scorers that are poor defenders are impossible to build a winner around. Dame is the highest level of that player type and his ceiling on his own wasn’t close to a championship.

If you can’t play defense then you have to be multi-dimensional and elite at some other part of the offense. Steph Curry doesn’t just score he opens up the entire fucking offense every position with us movement and scoring threat. If maxey reaches his ceiling then what’s a good player comp and how successful was that player as a team cornerstone
