He’s cooking right now. Points, rebounds and blocks.
only his 2nd year but he was 13th pick last season. Was high on him after last season and he seems to have taken a jump.
Thoughts about him so far this season?
stats: 18.0 points, 15.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.3 blocks

Stop giving MIP to second- and third-year lottery picks.
Like, these are literally the guys who are supposed to be making these jumps on this exact kind of schedule. (JD’s early, but still.)
The Next Great American Big
The Pistons done messed around and got themselves another Hall of Fame center.🔥

2nd year players don’t win
Hes a monster.
Just the natural progression of an excellent young center imo.
Looking like someone who could lead the league in FG%.
Embiid will have to come off the bench for team USA
He’s still only 19. He’s a fucking monster. His defense has been unreal to start the season and he just eats everyone on the glass.
He’s a eater fr
Imagine winning this at 19-20
might be a better version of bam
Second year players should not be eligible for MIP
Cool. Gimmie Cade then /s
Disagree. I agree that more volume and better stats shouldn’t automatically make you an MIP but some dudes look like completely different players from year one to two
A big leap from year one to year two is expected though. The award should be reserved for players who break through after everyone thought they’d plateaued, kind of like Markkanen or Randle or Brunson.
But you’re just making up your own definition. The award isn’t “most unexpected improved player”, who said players who are expected to improve shouldn’t be eligible?
I’d say historically the MIP award has just been “the biggest surprise” and to many a second year improvement isn’t surprising
Maybe that doesn’t line up exactly with the name of the award but you can’t deny that’s how it’s been interpreted through the years
So are you?
How? It’s called “most improved player” so the player who improved the most should be awarded, it’s literally in the name. Nowhere does it say it has to be a surprise.
Yeah I never understand the people that argue all season for a second year player to win MIP when it almost never happens. Since 1995 there have been only two and they where both second round picks. Gilbert Arenas and Monta Ellis. It’s simply just common sense that a second year player, especially a lottery pick will improve. People need to quit ignoring this context or else they’ll just spend another season arguing for a guy that will not win. Just accept the facts guys.
I agree on this one
The 13th pick in the NBA draft for some reason tends to have it’s fair share of impact players. Devin Booker, Richard Jefferson, Donovan Mitchell, Tyler Herro, Zach Lavine.
I still don’t know how Duren fell that far in the draft. Probably because of Penny Hardaway’s coaching, but he should have went way higher.
did you seriously leave out the most iconic 13th pick of all 💀
Ha. Kobe’s such a tremendous outlier, I felt weird listing his name with the others. But you are correct. He’s the best pick at #13 of all-time to date.
