As lemm.ee is shutting down at the end of the month, the community needs to find a new home instance.
The poll will be done via voting, you can vote for as many options as you want, but voting with multiple accounts will lead to all of your votes being discarded. Downvotes will be ignored.
Regardless of the choice, the live thread bot will be available.
The options to vote for are these:
-
!football@soccer.forum or alternatively !football@jogabonito.community
Pros:- Active and responsive admin
- Instance dedicated to football
- The instance is more or less already fully funded by paying users according to the owner.
Cons:
- Single point of failure in instance owner
- Instance name is soccer for the first option
-
!football@sopuli.xyz
Pros:- Similar instance to lemm.ee
- Blaze and @remington@beehaw.org have volunteered as new moderators.
Cons
- More of the same, similar risk as lemm.ee
-
Create a new community at !football@piefed.social
Pros:- A more rapid developed reddit alternative that seems more in tune with integrating community requested features.
- Both post and user flairs are currently supported.
Cons:
- Questionable long term scalability due to being built on top of python.
- No/few app options
Let me know if i missed something
Question: does even !football@jogabonito.news exist? What is this ?
A domain name purchased by the admin of soccer.forum:
You really think you have no influence on that?
Just as an example: you are still the most prolific poster on the football community at lemm.ee. If I told you that I could go right now and set up a new football instance for it (because you opposed the soccer.forum name, so I got jogabonito.news), would you even consider posting there or would you do what you’ve done before (created the community on lemm.ee and ignored what was already there?)
Cool thanks.
When there was the first talk about moving away from LW and I first proposed soccer.forum, there was a whole lot of bikeshedding around the name of the community. So, last year I got a domain that could work for both the American and European crowds, and if there is interest about moving to a topic-specific instance while opposing the soccer.forum domain, I can quickly set up the new instance.

The only problem I have with this is the term “soccer” and I’m an American!
Thank you!
I wish it wasn’t .news
Buy the domain you want, I will host it for you. :)
Sure send me where I should point my dns
You cheated by adding that o in the beginning. ;)
Let’s make a deal. Put it for the vote. If it wins, I will host it for free. If it doesn’t, you need to sign up for a paying plan on Communick.
Where even is the information about the paying plan so I can decide whether or not to make this deal lmao
Also, I just used Portuguese grammar =P
Seems a bit predatory indeed ha ha
If this is your choice, you need to upvote the original comment, not add your own. ;)

Votes will be vetted
I assumed so, thanks for confirming
New domain I just bought and will find an option for hosting if it wins:
Pros:
-No mentions of soccer or football to confuses the Americans and the rest of the world
-It’s not “.news” - we’re a community not a news site
-It wouldn’t be on the .world monolith
-Make communities for your teams
Cons:
- Gotta figure out how to host
Ok, I just found jogabonito.community for $35/year. I can transfer it to you at cost if you want. Let’s add to the list of choices.
I mean the .com is like $13/ year lol. I’d rather transfer to you. Doesn’t make sense to buy a more expensive domain
But I’d rather have the cleaner domain than the one with the cheat.
I do agree though that .news is not ideal. @UlrikHD@programming.dev, can you change the option for jogabonito.news to jogabonito.community ?
I don’t feel like it’s a cheat. I changed it from “Beautiful Game” to “The Beautiful Game”. Either way, though. You’re welcome to take my domain too. I have too many as it is
“Joga Bonito” is a verb, not a noun. It translates to “Play it beautifully”.
Ah you right, joga vs jogo. My bad
Sure
