My wife (29 F) and I (30 M) are both Licensed Massage Therapist. We’re both licensed in what I believe to be the two most conservative states (Alabama and Mississippi).
We’ve built our business doing travel massage; meaning we come to you wherever you are.
How can we better market myself? People tend to book with my wife more so then me. I understood this coming into the field; just didn’t realize how much I suppose. Although, I enjoy what I do 👌🏻.
Also, I have a mild form of cerebral palsy. Any ideas on how to use this is help market overall and/or possibly to that particular niche of people?
I was a tri-athelete back in the day…they guys I would train with met at the same park each day…many people like you set up shop giving away 10min massages for $10 to promote their services. Moral here is ‘go where the people are’
Women feel more comfortable being massaged by women and men generally prefer to be massaged by women. That’s why your wife is booked more often.
Not this woman. I always book men. Their hands feel better lol
I get a massage often (2-3 times a month) and I work out very often (couple times a week). I prefer to get massaged by men because in my experience its stronger and feels better for me.
Have you explored more towards a sport massage for yourself?
Adding to this, my ex wife has been independent for close to 15 years. Men are successful in massage therapy in the south in 2 catagories honestly, seniors and sports therapy. She turns most all of her sports related business to a male friend of here. They share referrals for seniors as well.
Lol dudes in the south are really that scared of being called gay… it’s so pathetic.
Its weird. I personally have a guy and im a guy. My guy is a kinesiology focused professional, helps with after race correction.
Try moving into sports/therapy massage. Your wife could be rest/relaxation sort of massage, you can target people in to sports. I bet people who are having massages to improve performance are less bothered by male/female.
- Guys want girls touching them.
- Girls want girls touching them.

You’re marketing to 25% of the market. If you’re getting booked at 25% of the rate that your wife is, you’re doing fine.
Ok maybe I’m skipping a whole demographic here, but it’s a relatively small population - especially in the conservative states.
Um technically shouldn’t op aim for 33% of his wife’s bookings

I don’t even think it’s 25% brother. Think about it, even if they’re in conservative states, a couple most likely aren’t micro managing each other to that extent.
Not as small as you think….wink wink wank wank.
Beibg four groups doesn’t mean that they represent the same amount of % of the market. Worse even, because your groups overlap.
Perhaps use your story of having mild cerebral palsy has helped you become a better masseuse and how that’s helped you understand that particular niche of people through massaging? Just an idea
Try a few things:
- selling “4-hand” massage
- def try to either find cerebral palsy clients or pro-cerebral palsy clients.
- try Facebook / Instagram ads
