In 2022, Chris Jones, a nuclear engineer, ran for Governor of Arkansas

He is an Arkansas native. He wrote a detailed platform about improving Arkansas. He visited every single county. His opponent, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, barely campaigned.
Jones lost by double digits. She absolutely destroyed him.

How the fuck did that happen? What’s the Arkansas culture like?
He ran as a democrat in a republican stronghold against a former member of trumps White House. For him to win would mean both changing the minds of hundreds of thousands of people as well as inspiring hundreds of thousands more to actually show up and vote (note 50% turnout). Their state house also has overwhelming republican control (72-29) as well as state senate (27-8) and state Supreme Court (9-0)
His loss was guaranteed before he started but it’s nice that he gave it serious effort. Elections in states like this are essentially theater to piss away shitloads of money. Welcome to America. Maybe in 30-50 years you can chip away some of that and get a tiny foothold, only to have fucked over by the fact that the judiciary is overwhelmingly controlled by republicans with no balance whatsoever.
Most Republican dominated southern states will always vote R.
Let’s use Oklahoma as an example. A state that has been run by Republicans for almost 2 decades, and they still blame democrats for everything. Most people in Oklahoma are highly religious team players. They will ALWAYS vote R, no matter who is on the ticket. Could be the neighbors dog vs. constitutional scholar.
Neighbors Dog - R
Scholar- D
Dog winning 10/10 everytime.
Warnock vs Walker in Georgia was a great example.
Didn’t Warnock win?
Former okie here, born and bred. So conservative, even the cities vote R.
Skin color
Name recognition is king.
Plus there seems to be an anti-intellectual, anti-education trend.
So a lot of low information voters weren’t aware of his qualifications. However all too many consider those qualifications detrimental
He has a D next to his name. Democrats have made it crystal clear they hate the South, Rural areas, and basically every thing about Alabama.
Why would you vote for someone who hates you?
In their defense, Republicans also hate the south. They just lie to their faces about it
Even if they secretly hate them, their actions speak louder than words.
The Republicans are making steps against abortion, against illegal immigration, against gun control. All things that the average Alabamian hates.
So you are saying the average Alabamian is fucking stupid?
That’s what happens when you fuck over public education (AL is 45 out of 50).
But no, it’s because Democrats hate the south.
No wonder people joke about that state’s family trees are a straight line.
Let me guess, you think the civil war was just about state’s rights and not slavery?
Republicans have made it crystal clear they hate everyone, but I guess we can just ignore that. Guns, white jesus, and as many dead mothers as possible, that’s the only thing Alabama loves.
Tell me you don’t know anything about reality without telling me you don’t know anything about reality.
So true, but in case you were not saying this tongue in cheek, yes the Republicans have successfully demonized Democrat priorities so a lot of low information voters probably do think this way
