So, I’m doing some research for a project in college and I am focusing on amazon music.

• amazon music had a big redesign in 2019 – users have mixed opinions

• amazon music has around 100 million songs and 5 million podcasts to listen to, amazon music live events, exclusive podcasts, desktop and mobile apps, easily connects to devices, pretty similar subscription plans to other music streaming apps

And I’m wondering…

• what is your opinion on amazon music?

• would you say amazon music is “cool” or “trendy” or rather something for a more mature audience?

• how do you like the current design?

• what music streaming platforms are you using if not amazon music?

    It’s fine.
    Recommendation tends to be pretty consistent too.

    But in the end using YT music, because I have YT prem.
    Also the ability to switch account (channel) is ultra nice, so that I can put hard barrier on the genre I want to listen / recommend.

    Its buggy as fuck and ive given up hope they will ever fix it. I still pay for amazon music unlimited, but it’s only because I’ve spent so many years building my playlists and I’m too lazy to try and export them to a fully functional service. I also use Qobuz and Tidal occasionally. But my thoughts on amazon music are that they have the same philosophy as they do on their Amazon Prime video apps. That app is also dog shit when you compare it to others, but Amazon don’t give a fuck about making it better, coz why should they?

    I honestly discarded amazon (and apple) as possibilities for my streaming service of choice due to their straight out evil business practices as a company.

    The smaller players (Qobuz, Tidal) offered the same sound quality, music collections, etc. without the association with an evil corporation.

    I use Amazon because I was able to pay for 12 months upfront for the cost of 9 months which meant it was cheaper than any other lossless streaming platform but I have been thinking I will try something else after the 12 months are up because the app is really buggy although the app does seem to have improved recently and I haven’t really had any problems with it for a couple of months now so I’m seeing how it goes but I will likely look into supporting a more ethical company that pays the artists more next time.

    The user face and recommendations seem pretty good although it’s been a few years since I have tried any of the other streaming services so don’t know how they compare.

    I dislike it. Money can be better spent. Tbh, Apple Music seems to have better sound quality, and it’s UI is liked by many people. Also, for those who are concerned about privacy, Amazon is the powerhouse of data collection, and this can deter some people. When speaking in terms of sound quality though, it seems Tidal is the best.

    I like it, but its variety definitely isn’t as good as Spotify or Apple Music. The only thing I dislike is that you don’t get Dolby Atmos on the desktop version. It’s on the mobile version, but I listen to a lot of music at my desk and the Dolby atmos version often sounds soooo much better.

    The search function is not good, sometimes you have to search by song name rather than artist name to get the right results. Very weird.

    The library is vast and the price is good.

    It’s fine but buggy like other users said. I only use it because it is included with Amazon Prime. Although the version you get with prime is severely gimped and I haven’t found a way to select individual songs I want to play. It is constantly on shuffle mode. You need to pay extra for Unlimited. At that point just pay for Apple Music or Spotify.

    There are plenty of good songs on Amazon Music, but if I had to choose, Apple Music is my favorite if you have an iPhone.

    Basically rehashing what others have said: sound quality is meh, catalog is good, it’s cheap, but software sucks.

    Qobuz sounds better but catalog sucks. Tidal sound quality is kind of all over the place IME but catalog is good.

    Using Amazon until subscription runs out, then will consider moving to Qobuz.

    Buggy awful experience. Couldn’t choose individual tracks from a new album the other day, had to sit through it or select the one single from the album and skip back or forward from there. The phone lock screen display also changes randomly. Sometimes it has the skip back/forward buttons, sometimes it doesn’t. It makes no sense and is not worth the hassle. Use literally any other service.

    Not sure if this is helpful but you might want to write something about the company behind it. I for my part will not use ANY products by amazone. Fuck them.

    amazon music has an interface that was designed by people who hate its customers. It appears to be tested by monkeys. Spotfy has its issues, but at least some thought went into the interface. Still tested by monkeys, though.
