Does anyone feel guilty at times about lying? I work from my own laptop doing project work and admin. No company or org laptops. They haven’t necessarily asked where I am, they simply assume I am in the region. I don’t correct them and generally just avoid the topic like local restaurants or news.
I know they would axe me immediately if they found out. The culture is very excessive lovey dovey (initially anyways - we are all a family here type stuff) but overtime I see the red flags. So I am not saying much. Keeping my head idown and working. Though I do feel guilty about this disguise and all. Anyone too?
Bruh companies would fire you immediately for their CEO literally wanting his own raise.
These people don’t give a fuck about you did those mass tech layoffs via ‘my lanyard not working’ teach you that?
Doesn’t mean you need to get all cynical, but just keep it real about how things would go if someone inept was in charge.
If they find out…lie. Get called into an emergency in person meeting? Oopsie, covid, then just book the flight a couple weeks later.
To add to this, they would also pay you 5 cents an hour if they could. As a whole corporations have brutally taken everything they possible can from workers with a smile on their face, so you should do the same (with a smile on your face). It’s not a friendship.
It’s not friendship for real.
Companies use sophisticated manipulation to exploit employees more effectively - creating one-sided loyalty and emotional connections. Your guilt is a normal human reaction, but not well adapted to this reality. The reality is it’s a transaction. Do your tasks, no more no less. Take the money. Live your life.
“We are a family” is the biggest red flag - the worst businesses I’ve encountered ALL said this.
As another said, don’t be cynical, but do open your eyes and look after your interests.
They would fire you in a heartbeat for trifling reasons.
“We are a family” is the biggest red flag -
this is so true. my company started including this message in all communications with employees. It’s so transparent and cringey, especially considering they are in the process of trying to force everyone back to the office and if you don’t like it you’re offered the option of leaving. But, but I thought we were a family!!
I spent nights taking calls after work hours for a client once. One mistake one day and I was let go the following week.
That day I realized I’m never ever going to go above and beyond for an employer. In fact, the opposite, I find ways to use to exploit them. And there is no guilt in me whatsoever.
You’re living your life. Your happiness and life is more valuable than any job. So quit worrying and do what you want.
Feel zero guilt at all as long as my deliverables are high quality and on time.
Avoid small talk, be “introverted” and just avoid talking to colleagues and bosses outside of strictly work related stuff. The guilt comes when you start being too friendly, worrying about TMI and possibly divulging personal details.
What are the red flags? Do elaborate
I just got approval from my boss and they were cool with it. I think the stress of worrying about getting canned would be too much for me. I feel like I would have given it away since it’s a smaller company.
If you’re using your own computer, I don’t see the issue of your work is getting done.
Maybe if you’re back in your home country anytime soon break the news that you’d like to work out the country?
Or just keep flying under the radar
You feel guilty because it sounds like you work for shitty company and the stress of getting canned weighs you
Any decent employer (not counting healthcare etc) would not care or just tell you to go home va outright firing you
How to not feel guilty for your actions?
- A) Don’t be guilty
- B) Be a sociopath
Habitually lying is corrosive to the soul.
Capitalism is based on exploiting people’s time and labor for profit. It’s systemically designed into the system we all work under. They will take anything they can from you.
Labor managing to exploit capital’s time and labor is just as fair in a capitalistic system. You should take whatever you can from them.
No lie happening here. Just buisness.
