Haberstroh wrote an article about CP3 and Foster on his substack but he tweeted out this stat and it’s astounding.

https://twitter.com/tomhaberstroh/status/1727596935534559437

reddit wants me to add more thoughts so I’ll just add that Scott Foster is closely tied with a corrupt gambling ref and shouldn’t have been allowed to officiate for the last 20 years.

https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/scott-foster-recipient-of-134-tim-donaghy-phone-calls-refereeing-celtics-heat-game-3/

Foster is the official who received 134 phone calls from disgraced referee Tim Donaghy between October 2006 and April 2007, as originally reported by FOX News. That was the same period during which Donaghy admitted to betting on NBA games. The report said that Donaghy called Foster more than any other ref and that he didn’t call any other official more than 13 times.

Foster 100% has information on people within the NBA. I’d assume the type of information that would ruin lives which is why he’s untouchable.

Didn’t watch the game but if he was calling moving screens on the Warriors the fouls number seems legit

Scott Foster needs to be gone. The fact that he has this amount of notoriety around the league and the entire fanbase is a horrendous distraction to this beautiful game.

I can’t tell if you’re serious but you do realize the statistical method you’re using works with events with an ACTUAL 75% chance of occurring and you’re using it to apply to scenarios where betting markets or journalists think it’s a 75 chance right? Those aren’t the same thing and it means you can’t just blindly do a binomial distribution and declare it proof of match fixing lol.

The fact that Foster remains untouchable tells me he has to have some type of dirt on the league.

I think the only way anything will ever be done about Foster is if fans ruin the TV product with chanting. If every time Foster does anything, the entire stadium starts chanting “Donaghy”, then the NBA will be forced to do something. The NBA cant afford to lose credibility, so if Donaghy trends on twitter after every game and people start googling Donaghy bc they heard the chants, its going to damage the league’s reputation. Once casual fans start to learn about Foster’s connection to Donaghy, mainstream sports media is going to jump on this storyline and presumably make a ton of money off of it.

The thing is, this could be one of those many instances where this sub cares about something that majority of fans that go to the games don’t care much about. /r/nba is a major echo chamber, and we tend to forget that sometimes. Of course given that the Warriors are affected this time, it may reach many more people than when CP3 was a Sun or a Clipper lol.

I forgot how many children post on here.

That is a ridiculous idea. It’s in the same vein as someone telling a story and it ends with “and everyone applauded as they told off the mean person”.

“Casusal” fans are well aware of Donaghy. It was a huge story when it happened. There are books on it. There was Netflix documentary released last year.

People want the NBA to be rigged so bad they can’t even fathom the idea that it’s not. It’s hilarious and sad at the same time.

Lol when that article came out a few months ago about the playoff losing streak I did some math based off the pre game Vegas odds, and the streak had literally like a 0.004% chance of happening. Posted that here and got totally shit on and called a conspiracy theorist. I think people are finally coming around to the idea that foster does not ref these games fairly

Basketball is so easy to manipulate with a few early seemingly meaningless calls. It’s better now but 80’s an 90’s and 00’s it was pretty close to pro wrestling levels of scripting

    I’ve recently gotten into euroleague.

I haven’t watched more than 10 minutes of nba game all year.

This bullshit makes me even more confident I made the right choice.

Wasn’t there an allegation that David Stern ruined the FBI’s investigation into other refs?

Which likely would have included Scott Foster

I guarantee there’s some level of fire with this scope and somebody (or somebodies) in the NBA offices are in on it

He did, he made things public and threw Donaghy under the bus before the FBI could finish the investigation.

the FBI had caught donaghy and were setting up a sting to catch other refs. stern allegedly found out and held the press conference revealing the donaghy situation (without consulting the authorities), presumably as a legal means to give other corrupt refs a “heads up” that the FBI was onto them.

Part of me always wonders what would have happened if the FBI sting was allowed to proceed. Sure the league would have taken a massive hit for a bit, but the entire process of selecting referees, training, ref review would have received a massive overhaul (in every sport) and I think long term the product would have been way better

Foster was likely a secret informant (aka “whistleblower”) and in exchange he was guaranteed his career and pay.
