So we can all agree that the Wizards are an awful team. They’re one of the teams that the currently 2-13 Detroit Pistons seem like they can beat and they face them on Monday. But after that, it cannot be understated how tough their schedule will be for the remaining calendar year.

Here is the Pistons upcoming schedule, from today up to December 31st (Technically the 30th is their last game for 2023):

2x Pacers

1x Wizards

1x Lakers

2x 76ers

2x Nets

1x Jazz

1x Cavs

1x Knicks

1x Bucks

1x Hawks

1x Celtics

1x Raptors

With the exception of perhaps the Jazz - who are also in the midst of a rebuild albeit one where they snapped their recent losing streak - that is 14 games which seem difficult to win given they are against playoff teams or teams aiming to make them.

The Detroit Pistons are currently on a 12-game losing streak. They have won less games in the calendar year of 2023 (9) than the city’s NFL team, the Lions (10; they went 2-0 in January 2023)

Would it be dumb for the pistons to make a “win now” trade to establish a bit of culture? With so many guards in rotation and many not seeing enough minutes I feel like an Ivey for Derozan type of swap could benefit a lot of parties. It’s just a 2 win team trading for an all star is a little pointless overall.

Not a win now trade but they should consider getting a good vet guard to have as a stabilizing force. Kyle Lowry would do wonders for the team for example.

The Pistons since post 2000’s are basically developing championship caliber role Players to trade to championship teams for 1st round picks, and then turning that into another championship level role player and repeat the whole thing.

Sure it’s possible, but we also overlook just the natural fuckery in NBA games. There’s a good chance they beat someone bc Pistons have a good night and they had a bad night type of thing

Every Pistons/Raptors series since 2016/17 has been a clean sweep (2016-2018, 2019/20, 2022/23 for the Raptors; 2018/19, 2020/21-21/22) and the Raptors already won the first game

Even if the raptors are garbage, there’s garbage, then 50 feet of crap, then the pistons.

We’ve had some stinkers this year and we ragdolled the pistons.

    That’s rough schedule

Surly they get a team on a back to back or a team has a few good players sit for whatever reason.

This is such a bad post and it’s not even that horrible of a schedule. They’ve been dealing with injuries with their guard rotation and could definitely pull wins against Wizards, Raptors, Jazz, Nets, Hawks.

have you watched any pistons games? it’s been soul crushing. we will likely pull a win against a random team, that’s just how sports go. but compared to where fans imagined they’d be at this point, they are so bad. and the statistic about the lions having more wins is worthy of a post itself, that shouldn’t be possible

I do but granted I usually have a pretty good time because I’m mostly focused on Ausar playing well because I drafted him in my dynasty team.

One of the forerunning teams will take them lightly, not play starters, and lose. It’s calculated. Why should someone like Giannis put his all out there against a team like the pistons? The risk of injury is way greater than one loss. It doesn’t matter. Pistons are a trap, none of the top teams are going to go all out playing them.

As an OK State grad, I loved Cade Cunningham out of college, but I no longer can see him as a franchise player. His shooting is absolutely atrocious and he has been a turnover machine. Hope I am wrong and he can improve

      TLDR at bottom.

The only other players in the last 20 years that would have faired better in this position is Luka and LeBron. Cade gets guarded like a top-15 player since day-1 when he was injured to even start. This is not pretty but let’s give it some time because we are so young and injured.

We have had 3/5 bigs injured most of the season. As well as 2/4 guards. Livers Bogi Duren all either play some 4 or the 5. No Monte and Burks been hella injured. Arguably our best 4 shooters have been out almost this whole time.

Missing at least 2 starters and 3/6 of your bench will make any team look worse. Cade hasn’t played in a year and it seems like Monte has side quests disciplining Ivey (which has been looking like a potential career altering change in approach) and Killian Hayes is seeing if his unique skillset has a place in the game. It’s tough because it’s not like we can put our backup point guard that we signed in Killians spot.

Stew being the floor spacer on the court for Cade means Cade is going to shoot worse because of defensive attention. Cade has to be in potentially the worst spot in the NBA. Doesn’t mean his teammates are terrible it’s just insane all the shooters have literally been injured.

I’m still surprised we looked so good in the beginning. Our D looks half decent when we have Duren. And hot take incoming; this team is going to look entirely different when we half our rotation and literally all of our established shooters.

Not to mention Cade & Duren play well off each other.

TLDR: this teams looks bad because no established shooters and missing defensive anchor. Cade has been guarded like a top-15 player since day-1 and those things will make him significantly worse.

If he was that good he’d make it work. I don’t care about the ‘defensive attention’ or the shitty team around him. I like cade and hope he progresses into a cornerstone for Detroit, but he is not cut out to be a leader or number one option.

Seriously. People make every excuse in the book for Cade but great players make it work.

Shai showed out playing with some horrible, horrible lineups when he was coming up.

Haliburton was amazing playing with the trash 2022 Kings roster when Fox was out.

Garland played amazing in 2022 with the amazing spacing of Okoro/Mobley/Allen starting together.

Even someone like Anfernee Simons was much better than Cade playing with similarly bad lineups.

His first season was in the “he’s being asked to be a volume scorer right away on a bad team, of course he’s inefficient, he’ll improve” category.

He hasn’t improved. He’s gotten worse.

Yup. People need to chill before giving up on the man. He’s 22, he can still improve and change his game. I don’t know if Detroit is the best place for him to do that, but people need to realize players can become better.

uh no, that guy is just being weird. Most sane people who sit down and watch a pistons game for a half will recognize that the team has absolutely zero ability to shoot the 3. our leading 3pm are Alec Burks, Kevin Knox Cade and Beef Stew, thats it for people that average over 1.5 3s a game (sasser should break into this group soon, 1.3 atm).

Burks is great but tbh shoudlnt’ be the leading 3pm mainly cause i don’t expect him to maintain his 2.6 per game at 40% clip. Burks also only just got back, only 9 games played. Knox similarly just got signed, can’t see him maintaining 2per game on 44%. Cade and Stew will likely remain about the same, but I woudlnt’ be shocked if they too dip.

Without shooters, Cade can’t play his game. Hes not a shooter, he shouldn’t be jacking up 6 a game at this point in his career and he wouldnt’ if he had space to exploit and drive inside. Without Bojan we are seriously hopeless.

Can’t comment on the last 2, but BURKS can absolutely keep that up, besides Fournier he was our leading 3 point shooter to.

Knox likely can as well, we picked him 8th and he fell out of the rotation, but we didn’t take him the because he didn’t hit 3’s.
