DeRozan took exception to Pascal Siakam attempting a 3-point shot with 3 seconds left and the Raptors leading by 12 points when Siakam could’ve dribbled out the clock. DeRozan angrily chastised the Raptors bench and coach Darko Rajakovic, who told coach Billy Donovan that Siakam attempted the shot because point differential matters for In-Season Tournament ramifications.

The Raptors actually had been eliminated from In-Season Tournament advancement before the game, but apparently, word didn’t get to Rajakovic and Siakam.

“I don’t care about no In-Season Tournament points, none of that. Just respect for the game,” DeRozan said. “If the roles was flip-flopped and I had the ball, hold it. It is what it is.”

If players wanna play until the buzzer, that’s kind of the point of time being on the clock. I think anybody getting in their feelings about someone playing until the buzzer is utterly hilarious.

DeRozan gets all the respect in Toronto and will continue to do so but like the game isn’t 47 mins and 30 seconds… It’s 48 mins. Just play the game bro. It’s so wack when players get upset over the pettiest shit.

Whether you lose by 1 or by 50 a loss is a loss. If you know you don’t have a chance of winning the game and the last seconds don’t then why does it matter if you lost by 3 more points?

The Jeff Teague podcast clip of him talking about Demar/PJ Tucker being so heated about some shit like this a decade ago is wild to see now that there’s been no growth even when there actually is reason to jack up points in blowouts with the tournament. I don’t think this is about firing the team up it’s just Demar being a sore loser.

Shame what has happened to the Bulls post Jordan in the late 90s til today.

They only had a brief time of winning with Rose and Butler’s teams.

Mostly been 30 years of irrelevance all while still having some of the best attendance every year.

Because OP left out the second half of DeRozan’s quote, it seems like he is mostly upset about respect for the game, but it’s about the Bulls’ general performance.

“I can’t fake it. I’m beyond frustrated. And I think it’s rightfully so as a competitor,” DeRozan said. “Everybody in this locker room is frustrated. It’s from a good place of being a competitor and wanting to figure it out that badly. Put a couple wins together. I really truly believe that can shift everything for us.”

I’ve definitely seen Bron openly frustrated with Russ lmao. I’ve also definitely heard Wizards teammates complain.

You ask any old teammates about Demar and everyone loves him lmao. PG hasn’t even played with him and sings songs of praise whenever he gets brought up.

From a player’s perspective, you’ve got a guy who’s been in the league forever, is all about respecting yourself (and others around you), has a stupidly high work ethic, and is very outspoken about mental health issues associated with being in the spotlight like these guys are. Shit, dude had young players on Chicago LIVING WITH HIM in the off-season so they could work out and practice with him even.

Then from an organization standpoint, the dude is a model professional. Didn’t fuck around requesting a trade after being moved to the Spurs, openly talks about how San Antonio was bad for his mental, but but then immediately goes on to say how much he appreciated the support he had from the organization and Pop. He even bought into Pop’s system in San Antonio because he was aware the goal wasn’t winning games, it was helping the young guys get their feet under them. Dude is a scorer and put up 7 assists per game on a tanking team full of young players.

No media shitshows, buys into what coaches say, does his best to support young players, doesn’t request trades, etc… I don’t know how anyone can look at him and see “self centered” lmao

He reminds me of an upgraded, starter version of Lou Will. He’ll get you buckets but they might not be efficient. And that just doesn’t really cut it anymore for a teams’ star player

This is an L take, Demar DeRozan is an exception to the threes over deep two rule. I think there was a thinking basketball video on how for some peculiar reason his efficiency drops significantly from deep two to three range. He’s consistently been one of the most efficient mid-range scorers for a decade.

Yes the three is usually a much better option than the deep two but it also depends on who’s taking it.

As for the self-cantered, he’s literally been loved by every fan base he’s been to so idk man.

During Ayo Dosunmu’s rookie season Demar went down with him to Champaign (which is the most boring 3 hour drive from Chicago) to see his jersey retirement ceremony at the University of Illinois even though they’d only known each other for a couple months at that point. Last year he did similar things with then-rookie Dalen Terry, you’d see videos of them hanging out like Demar was making sure Terry felt welcome in the locker room.

He seems like the best type of vet teammate you could ask for, it’s the opposite of the Kobe type attitude like “you can’t sit with us at this table until you get better at basketball.”

That’s true only when he’s hitting 2s at over 55%, this year he has been off, and it’s clear why contested/deep/fadeaway 2s are lower efficiency shots. It just mucks everything up in the offense, decreases passing, decreases off ball movement.

I remember when he lost the dunk contest he was disappointed because it seemed like the dunks that got the most praise were the ones with costumes and props, and not the more traditional acrobatics and body control. Just a guy who has strong feelings about how the game should be played.

Agreed, this is just one small aspect about him that I find annoying cause I’ve seen him blow up on a team/player before when they score in a winning game as the clock runs down.

Do I personally think the winning should run out the clock, especially in a blowout victory? Yes, but am I going to loose control of my emotions because someone breaks an “unspoken rule”? No.

I haven’t seen anybody calling him much of anything. He’s one of my favorite players on and off the court. His style isn’t optimal for results but it’s beautiful, largely fundamental basketball mixed with well honed, well mastered motions.

DeMar has a hard head for the game being beautiful by an old definition. My preferences jive with his because I think beauty in sport is sidelined in pro leagues. For this, he will always have detractors. People I disagree with.

But they are not miserable. They’re not whiny bitches. They just have different tastes than me. To look down on people for talking their talk in this slop of a sub is weak. Get off your high horse and eat some collagen to thicken your skin.

Hold up here. There are plenty of reasons to dislike popovich. First of all he is not a good coach; he has never done anything with a team that didn’t have multiple hall of famers. This is particularly true with the horrible job he did with team USA, leading a team comprised entirely of NBA caliber players against teams with at most two NBA players, yet finishing 7th. Then we have his condescending holier than thou attitude. So yeah, plenty to dislike.

I think this sub just discourages discussion bc everyone just downvotes if you disagree.

So that’s why you see threads just leaning one way with some old jokes thrown in. Bc anyone who opposes or has a diff opinion just gets downvoted or called a nephew/casual.

So that’s why it may look like one minute everyone is on one side, then the next everyone on another. Just depends on the thread. I think they shouldn’t let you see up/downvotes in this sub. Think it would help a lot

French kid made a dry joke and people are calling him an ungrateful asshole. Have you ever met a French person before? Dry humor is as French as Canadians saying sorry.

Huge nothingburger of a controversy where people willfully took what he said and made it worst case scenario. And some people even had the gall to say “What did you expect he’s French?” Fucking disgusting man

The bulls literally shot a 3 with 18 seconds and time on the shot clock down 15. Can’t do that then get mad when the other team plays until the buzzer

not saying demar is right or wrong to be annoyed but for that 3 specifically, teams frequently play their last possession normally if the shot clock is on and dribble it out if it’s off
