The situation Pop has built is honestly malpractice for Wemby. Every other team in the top 5 would’ve given him proper guard support to get to spots that he could excel. The Sochan experience is a colossal failure and is depriving the fans of enjoying wembys rookie year.

You’re right, would have been so much better to go to the Hornets, a well run team well know for developing talent. Would have been much better off

Charlotte would’ve been a great fit for him. Melo would always feed him and he could effectively roam alongside a rim protector like Mark Williams.

I mean sure, maybe it would be a better spot for his rookie counting stats. What reasons you have to believe that Charlotte is going to be better at developing him than a team like the Spurs who have a track record of taking guys drafted in the late teens and 20s and turning them into borderline all stars pretty consistently.

Developing as a player takes a lot more than playing with a good guard. The Spurs have one of the best track records in the history of the NBA at developing players. The other 4 teams in the top 5 do not, Portland wouldn’t have been terrible thought. Charlotte would have been absolutely terrible for his development long term compared to the Spurs. They are notoriously bad at drafting and developing players.

Dejounte Murray, Derek White, and keldon Johnson were all drafted at 29. All three of them great between high level rotation player to borderline All-Star, to actual all-star. Devin Versailles drafted outside the top 10 and definitely goes top six in a redraft. Guys like Jones probably go borderline lottery and he was a second round pick.

Spurs consistently punch above their weight when it comes to draft talent and developing on heralded players and now they actually have a heavy heading draft selection to work with.

That’s without mentioning guys other teams discarded and then got turned into sought after role players by the Spurs like Danny Green and Poetl. Guys who the league thought were garbage/ on their last legs who came to SA and rehabbed their image/ extended their careers like Aldridge, Derozan and Rudy Gay.

Kawhi Leonard - 2 chips, 2 time fmvp, was drafted in 2011 and developed by Spurs.

Dejounte Murray is also balling out

Lol. How many fmvps has Hornets, Blazers, Rockets and Pistons developed in the last 13 years ? They were the other 4 top picks. Dumbass.

Dejounte played 6 seasons in SA, was the 29th pick and was an AllStar the year before they traded him lol. They also developed Derozan from an inefficient chucker into one of the best midrange players in the league and at the very least an average playmaker for his position. Also Derrick White who was also pick 29 went from completely unknown bench player to a starter on one of the favorites for the title. Kyle Anderson, 30th pick has developed into one of the best role players in the league. Also developed Poetl from fringe starter/bench rider to one of the better defensive bigs in the league. Danny Green went from a guy who barely played and couldn’t shoot in Cleveland to one of the most sought after role players for a decade and is still somehow in the league at 36. There’s probably more I’m missing.

The Spurs track record is unimpeachable. Pretending it’s not is lunacy.
