The situation Pop has built is honestly malpractice for Wemby. Every other team in the top 5 would’ve given him proper guard support to get to spots that he could excel. The Sochan experience is a colossal failure and is depriving the fans of enjoying wembys rookie year.
The Sochan PG experiment is nothing but a tank job, and it’s hilarious how Pop is pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes
Dude compared to charlotte? Are you serious
Between them and the blazers
Wemby would have been playing with Lillard.
I hate how impatient we as NBA fans have gotten. So many posts like this, ignoring the fact that the Spurs organization has clearly shown an ability to foster and/or develop talent. Yes you can argue Duncan can in more ready than almost any player ever but they still created an organization around him to maximize that plus developed Manu and Parker. Then you have Kawhi which no one saw becoming what he was by the end of his time on the spurs, plus guys like Dejounte Murray and Derrick White who’ve been very good after starting under the Spurs development program.
I get it, Sochan doesn’t look like he can run an offense. But there are two potential upsides to that. He can’t and they get another high draft pick, or he figures it out and they can run MASSIVE lineups with all long bois in a league that still isn’t ready for it (look at what the Nuggets did to everyone in the playoffs, and even the Lakers before they faced the Nuggets, the small ball era isn’t what it used to be).
Even if Sochan doesn’t become a great lead ballhandler what are the downsides of having an extra guy who can potentially run weak side pick and rolls, make quick decisions when needed and potentially run second units in a couple years.
You’ll have to forgive OP. He just finished cutting a turkey out of construction paper after tracing his hand.
Spurs think they have the talest Trae Young ever. Spurs lost basically all their talent for years, all the other teams have been stealing their non playing personnel for years. Pop is senile, him going to the mic on a Leonard free throw confirmed it.
Bron doubled the Cavs record from 18 to about 35 wins his rookie year, missed playoffs
Didnt make the playoffs till about 3 years later and we all know what happened there
Not sure if you came here with this just to get dunked on, but that, very predictably, is exactly what happened lol.
If I was a young NBA prospect, I’d stay the fuck away from social media and fans in general.
You’re right, would have been so much better to go to the Hornets, a well run team well know for developing talent. Would have been much better off
Who have the spurs developed in the past 10 years?
Kawhi Leonard - 2 chips, 2 time fmvp, was drafted in 2011 and developed by Spurs.
Dejounte Murray is also balling out
So a player drafted 13 years ago and a guy they traded in year 2. Can’t beat that track record
Lol. How many fmvps has Hornets, Blazers, Rockets and Pistons developed in the last 13 years ? They were the other 4 top picks. Dumbass.
a guy they traded in year 2.
You aren’t good at counting, are you?
Dejounte played 6 seasons in SA, was the 29th pick and was an AllStar the year before they traded him lol. They also developed Derozan from an inefficient chucker into one of the best midrange players in the league and at the very least an average playmaker for his position. Also Derrick White who was also pick 29 went from completely unknown bench player to a starter on one of the favorites for the title. Kyle Anderson, 30th pick has developed into one of the best role players in the league. Also developed Poetl from fringe starter/bench rider to one of the better defensive bigs in the league. Danny Green went from a guy who barely played and couldn’t shoot in Cleveland to one of the most sought after role players for a decade and is still somehow in the league at 36. There’s probably more I’m missing.
The Spurs track record is unimpeachable. Pretending it’s not is lunacy.
A guy they got 3 first for in his 2nd year is bad development?
It wasn’t his second year. He was on his 2nd contract ffs
Dejounte Murray, Derek White, and keldon Johnson were all drafted at 29. All three of them great between high level rotation player to borderline All-Star, to actual all-star. Devin Versailles drafted outside the top 10 and definitely goes top six in a redraft. Guys like Jones probably go borderline lottery and he was a second round pick.
Spurs consistently punch above their weight when it comes to draft talent and developing on heralded players and now they actually have a heavy heading draft selection to work with.
That’s without mentioning guys other teams discarded and then got turned into sought after role players by the Spurs like Danny Green and Poetl. Guys who the league thought were garbage/ on their last legs who came to SA and rehabbed their image/ extended their careers like Aldridge, Derozan and Rudy Gay.
Charlotte would’ve been a great fit for him. Melo would always feed him and he could effectively roam alongside a rim protector like Mark Williams.
Developing as a player takes a lot more than playing with a good guard. The Spurs have one of the best track records in the history of the NBA at developing players. The other 4 teams in the top 5 do not, Portland wouldn’t have been terrible thought. Charlotte would have been absolutely terrible for his development long term compared to the Spurs. They are notoriously bad at drafting and developing players.
I mean sure, maybe it would be a better spot for his rookie counting stats. What reasons you have to believe that Charlotte is going to be better at developing him than a team like the Spurs who have a track record of taking guys drafted in the late teens and 20s and turning them into borderline all stars pretty consistently.
Charlotte was in the top 5 and has guys committing felonies every couple weeks.
Lamelo himself already makes the hornets a better situation for Wemby than whatever the Spurs have
Surely LaMeloxMilesxScoot is a reliable an unbiased source of this information with no ulterior motives, pack it up folks
lol
I’m biased as hell, but I think of the lotto teams from a roster standpoint, the Pacers would have been perfect.
That said, the Spurs are a great organization for him to be a part of going forward.
We could have drafted hali like I wanted us to do. He’s so damn good
Not just Hali, but having Myles there. Basically Wemby could freelance on D, and on O, he wouldn’t be required as a ball handler. The spacing with him and Myles would work really well in general as both can stretch the floor or play inside.
I never understood the weird phase where every talking head acted like Myles wasn’t a phenomenal fit on any team in the league on a good contract.
I’m confident the front office has a plan (and patience) that projects beyond sixteen games.
pop is a fraud simple as. carried by duncan, tp, manu and kawhi. he’s too old to change his ways now.
This is obviously ridiculous, but at the same time I do remember that he was happy to not to be going to the Rockets, but they look a lot better
