Pad the floor area around the court, ball hitting the pad and having a dead bounce will make it easier to tell if it’s out of bounds and protect players that dive for them

Also get all the fucking photographers out from right under the basket

I’d argue that 85% of the most iconic on court basketball photographs ever captured were taken from under the basket. Photographers use one lens to capture dunks and other good shots from the basket they are under(like d wade with his arms wide after Lebrons transition dunk) and a different lens to capture shots on the other side of the court (MJ game winner over Utah) all from under the basket.

Pads can still destroy your hand unless you’re talking about a foam pit on the edge. Helmets have protected heads in football but made players play the game with riskier tackles and tactics. You can’t take injury out of many games. Just make sure rules involve players having to be in control of their bodies on risky challenges. To me, that play is a suspension for making such a stupid attempt at a block. Completely agree on the photographers and fans being so damn close

I know hawks fans want kuzma ejected and suspended but I really don’t think this was particularly malicious

flagrant 1 maybe, just an unfortunate outcome

I know Hawks fans are mad but this isn’t a malicious play by Kuz. You can find examples like this in every NBA game.

As harsh as it sounds, learning how to fall correctly is a vital skill for NBA players. You should NEVER break a fall with your hands, wrists are weak (skaters know this). Super unfortunate but he’ll learn as he gets more experience in the league.

I like Kuz a lot and I don’t think he’d ever do something like that out of malace. It was a lazy and reckless play though, going up under a guy in the air like that is always dangerous, play the ball or if you’re fouling to prevent the shot, wrap them up.

In acting classes, it’s taught to fall on the meatiest parts of your body whenever possible.

The side of the leg, side of the arm, etc. fall where there’s muscle, not where there’s joints

Good chance it’s just a sprained wrist… can hurt as bad and sideline you for just as long as a sprained ankle

Kuzma was contesting the shot, something most players do every game. Dude just didn’t to fall the right way after contact.

Damn, this looks like it hurts. I feel bad for him. I don’t think Kuzma intended it, but it really sucks for Johnson. I hope he recovers fast.
