So out of like the top 50 all time players, who had a rookie season most comparable to a Peyton Manning or a Troy Aikman, where they really struggled and their future almost looked questionable

Giannis was still a huge question mark his rookie year, idk if he was “bad” but didn’t stand out at all

He was a clear project piece and his potential was very much apparent. Playing for the bucks in 2014 was never gonna result in decent rookie numbers. Didn’t he make the rising stars game in his rookie year?

Yeah if you go back and watch when he was drafted Fran Fraschilla even says “this is not a guy who is going to make an impact year 1, he’s a long-term project.”

Yeah I know he’s definitely not the best answer here but I still think the gap from where he was as a rookie to where he is now is large enough to have him mentioned. There are some people mentioned here who had worse rookie years but then also were never as good as peak Giannis

I remember watching a bucks game with my friend Giannis rookie year and we both said if this guy learns how to play basketball he could be great. When he came into the league he couldn’t shoot, he couldn’t dribble, and he was super skinny. Dude absolutely put in the work to turn himself into a top player

He was 6’11” and weighed 130 pounds so everyone was fine with it. Its crazy that he was averaging 22 by age 22 all things considered
