So out of like the top 50 all time players, who had a rookie season most comparable to a Peyton Manning or a Troy Aikman, where they really struggled and their future almost looked questionable
Harden.
Reading all of these comments trying to keep my hopes up on Scoot 🥲
Does he really look that bad or are things just not falling into place
The concerning thing is he hasn’t shown the athletic explosion he did last year.
Charlotte fans are in similar mood about their rook.
Probably even Spurs fans are starting to wonder
Spurs fans are not wondering. Wemby is legit.
This is absurd. These guys are so young. Of course there are major holes in their performances. But Wemby has shown a at too much for anyone to doubt him at his age.
I have zero doubt about Victor going forward lol. Literally his “struggles” in a very young season have all been expected to anyone who’s followed him prior to this year. He’s going to be a monster.
Brandon Miller and Wemby both looking super good. Even with Wemby slumping a bit in shooting his floor with his vision and shot blocking is incredible
He’s averaging 19 and 9
No one should be worried about him
I was hoping his name wouldn’t come up here. Scoot my man, we love you, but I don’t wanna have to get fubo to watch your games.
I know he’s only played a few games, but has he at least shown flashes? Even if his averages are down as long as you can see the potential it’s hard to scrutinize rookie guards
Steve Nash’s rookie year:
-
65 games (10.5 mpg)
-
3.3 ppg
-
1 rpg
-
2.1 apg
That guy clearly has no future. I’ve seen enough
get ready to learn Chinese buddy
Nash was so freaking fast with the ball when he’d get a chance to play, but a little sloppy. I remember wishing that he would get more minutes because he seemed like he had a lot of potential, and he was really fun to watch. Flash-forward and he’s better than both of the guys he backed up. Crazy.
I know Nash has 2 MVP’s but honestly I would take JKidd in his prime over Nash if I were to choose my starting PG between the two
Disagree… Nash was a much better scorer and a better passer. Kidd was a much better defender but at the point guard spot I’d rather have the 50/40/90 shooter than the better defender
Playing behind JKidd and Kevin Johnson. Both a brutal and good situation for him. Brutal in the sense that his minutes were severely limited. Good in the sense that he had two very talented mentors.
It’s impressive he even manages to get on the court given his situation.
I think Sam Cassell was on that team as well.
Kidd and KJ both went on the record to say that Nash killed it in practice everytime. It was not an ideal situation because the Suns had playoff aspirations the time.
That’s honestly significantly better than Scoot when you account for pace, minutes, TS%, and turnovers. Not sure what was blinding everyone (including me) about the value of that pick

Giannis
Kobe averaged 7 ppg his rookie year
frustrating year watching him on the bench despite eddie jones being a 8/10
Kawhi same shit
kawhi started on a playoff team his rookie year
Yeah but no one questioned if Kobe was going to be bad because of his Rookie Season. That may not be the question though.
Kobe only took 5.9 FGA per game his rookie year and averaged 7.6 points per game. That’s a 55% TS%, which ain’t bad.
Kobe was playing off the bench behind two all star guards. He didn’t have the minutes and definitely didn’t have the greenlight despite shooting well
Yeah but he still played 15 minutes per game on a contender as an 18 year old rookie
Jermaine O’Neal 5 and 3 as a rookie teenager on a contending team.
If you consider Ben Wallace an all time great he played 35 games his rookie year and average 1.1/1.7/0.1 on 34/0/30 splits averaging 5.8 mpg
Wizards legend
He is absolutely an all-time great, but he is not one of the best 50 players ever (as the question asks).
And he did get postered by Kobe, so at least he had that …
Can we do current players?
Giannis had 6.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.8 blocks
Not awful, but he was a young player on a garbage team.
Not a season per say, but arguably Kobe’s most infamous game was that Disasterpiece with all the airballs.
he’s not all time 50, but Jimmy Butler
Got to be a high school player who made the jump like Kobe or KG. It’s a big leap from HS to the Pros for anyone not named LeBron James lol.
MJ only averaged 28 as a rookie
Along with 6.5 reb, 5.9 ast, and 2.4 steals on 52/17/85 shooting
What a bum
lol 🍺🍺
Giannis was still a huge question mark his rookie year, idk if he was “bad” but didn’t stand out at all
He was a clear project piece and his potential was very much apparent. Playing for the bucks in 2014 was never gonna result in decent rookie numbers. Didn’t he make the rising stars game in his rookie year?
Yeah if you go back and watch when he was drafted Fran Fraschilla even says “this is not a guy who is going to make an impact year 1, he’s a long-term project.”
Yeah I know he’s definitely not the best answer here but I still think the gap from where he was as a rookie to where he is now is large enough to have him mentioned. There are some people mentioned here who had worse rookie years but then also were never as good as peak Giannis
I remember watching a bucks game with my friend Giannis rookie year and we both said if this guy learns how to play basketball he could be great. When he came into the league he couldn’t shoot, he couldn’t dribble, and he was super skinny. Dude absolutely put in the work to turn himself into a top player
He was 6’11” and weighed 130 pounds so everyone was fine with it. Its crazy that he was averaging 22 by age 22 all things considered
John Stockton’s wasn’t great, although he was getting decent steals numbers even then: 5.6/1.3/5.1 with 1.3 spg.
Pretty damn effective for a backup in an era where PGs didn’t score.
Isiah Thomas would like to have a word.
