Joel Embiid is also #7 in FG’s this season. He’s a bucket and tough guard. Get over it.

I absolutely hate how the NBA is reffed. Basketball is a contact sport and the game would be so much better if they went with the style of FIBA refs where defenders don’t have to jump out of the way of attackers without risk of getting called for a foul.

All that said, drawing fouls is a skill that is incredibly effective. Players should be trying to draw fouls.

How do injury stats compare with FIBA/NBA? Does the nba have a real claim when they say they’re protecting their stars?

My solution is clear, if its not an obvious foul, or charge, just let it go, no whistle. Speeds the game up for sure instead of giving a big call to either player when in reality it was probably a 55/45 type of call.

They should be trying to draw fouls without flailing like a fish unnecessarily. This is the nuance most folks don’t get, it would be fine if Embiid averaged 11 fta if he earned them by genuinely attempting to score as the first priority, and finding contact second.

Again, nothing wrong with showing that you’re being fouled. Steph doesn’t play to get fouled though, he shoots and if/when he’s fouled he lets the refs know.

Finally a sane take. People in this thread are furious at Embiid for using the rules of the game to his teams advantage. Especially ironic considering they say “he’d be so much more adored if he didn’t do it!” then whine whenever player care about something other than winning. It’s the refs’ fault, not Embiid’s

Lmfao it’s so funny hearing every non-lakers home broadcast being like “welp it’s LeBron James he will get those calls!” Whenever he gets fouled even slightly while he is bulldozing to the rim without flopping and Embiid can just flail and get 12 FTA a game.

It’s why he is the Harden of Centers, that playstyle isn’t winning you shit.

There was a game I watched back in 2018 when LeBron was at his peak in terms of singular ability, and he got walloped by some center (could have been Embiid) and he was pissed he didn’t get a call. Replay showed the hit and the official turning a blind eye. Just a testament to his strength and ability to play and finish through the contact.

I watched LeBron for 11 years get half the calls Embiid gets while he was like 30 pounds lighter and shorter than Embiid while also finishing at the rim more frequently. It’s bullshit.

People are calling him a foul merchant, sure. But I hope they realize it’s the result of Dame’s burst of speed and blowing past the defender leading to an intentional hack.

Having Dame drive is a game changer in the 4th. He gets the ball on our side, and you don’t have to be scared out of your mind what is going to happen, and teams are scared to foul him.

Before you know it, he is already at the other side, driving to the paint, drawing contact and going to the line.

And if things don’t work, you have an elite passer to organize your offense in the clutch. Which is as big for us because Giannis feeds off of that and is feasting in the clutch.

If we are not the most clutch team in the league, we are close to that.

What’s more important is that there’s still huge room for improvement, all around.

Yup. Jumper looks like he’s a little short on power through his legs right now.

Still .601 TS% because of those drives. It’ll be worse for the league if they ever start going to P&R as frequently as Philly. Lillard does his best work off that, by far.

Embiid has averaged at least 11.7 free throw attempts per game the last three seasons. SGA averaged 10.9 free throw attempts once last season, sandwiched in between two seasons averaging 7.2-7.4 free throw attempts per game. The two are not the same.

I think his free throws attempts is a clear example of how big guys can dominate in today small nba, if you have the skill and the size to capitalize. Embiid is one of the heaviest and tallest players in the nba, and usually the biggest guy in the court. There is very little most guys can do to stop him without fouling, and he is also pretty nimble for a guy his size.

can you imagine Shaq in todays game?

The problem is not Embiid getting those calls is that only he is getting this type of calls. Other players can get murdered on the floor and still not get a whistle. That is why his game seems unfair
