Why do Sengun and Sabonis get compared to Jokic instead of each other?

For whatever reason both get compared to Jokic but don’t really have the same game at all. Sengun and Sabonis are not bigs reliant on elite footwork in the post nor are 'Point Centers '. Both are honestly no more than good pssers at their position but they do not orchestrate offenses.

Why do they get compared to Jokic who plays a completely different style rather than each other who have the same style.

Some of these opinions I swear man. Try watching 1 Kings game, then tell us the offense isn’t completely centered around Sabonis in the high post.

Before making a post comparing players, maybe try actually watching those players play.

Sabonis is very strong and heavily favours his dominant left hand. He also gets most of his assists from handoffs and cutters. Sengun is one of the most ambidextrous players in the league and he generates offense and does pg style assists. He is maybe even bolder with his passes than Jokic is. Sengun is much more similar in style to Jokic but is arguably even more pg like due to him diving and kicking out or diving and dunking a lot.

Lol what? Elite post footwork is probably Sengun’s best trait as a player and he uses it all the time…

Idk. I’m not really impressed with sabo’s playmaking like I am with jokic and sengu’s. Don’t get me wrong, sabo makes some nice passes but it’s like the majority of his assists are just normal DHO’s with some exceptional passes here and there

You need to watch more Sengun. Sabonis has his own way to making plays but Alpi and Jokic have a lot of similarities. Of course, Jokic is like a semi-god on what he does and the whole other level but Alpi is unbelievably mature for his age, 21 years old. He is really the best candidate to carry the torch after Jokic.

And don’t say Alpi does not have elite footwork. This is just not true. He is elite.

Sabonis isnt necessary a scorer like Sengun or Jokic. Typically tries to facillitate first before looking for his shot

    The similarities I see are:

    1. They all routintely initiate offense with dribble hand off actions and mix ups out of the hand off. Once they can shake a defender or gain get a step or two on them, they can provoke a defensive rotation and then opportunities open up for cutters and spot up shooters that find their defender sagging off.

    2. They all disguise their intent well by blending their body movements into different types of action, making them hard to read. e.g. Sabonis is amazing at timing a hand off at the apex of the upward bounce of his dribble so its hard to tell if he is going to take another dribble or hand the ball off.

    3. They are all capable of screening and rolling as the screener or the roller and they can all make the extra pass, making the 2 man games they play very difficult to read and react to.

    4. For some of the reasons already stated, the disguised action, willingness to pass or score, screen or roll, spin and shoot or spin and kick out. They can all play facing the basket or back to basket and seem equally comfortable doing either. As such they all have this quality I would describe as “illusive”. Its very hard to tell what they are going to do until after they have already done it. Deception is a big part of all of their games.

Sengun definitely should. There’s a lot of similarities in their games. For Sabonis I kinda agree(I think?)… Sabonis can pass, is white and from Europe and that’s it lol
