The prospect of direct foreign intervention in support of Iran’s protesters appears to be growing daily, with US President Donald Trump repeatedly signalling a readiness to attack.

In Israel, far-right Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu told Army Radio last week, “When we attacked in Iran during ‘Rising Lion’ [Israel’s June attack on Iran], we were on its soil and knew how to lay the groundwork for a strike. I can assure you that we have some of our people operating there right now,” stopping short of claiming that Israeli agents were seeking regime change.

Writing on social media earlier this month, former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is also a former director of the CIA, did acknowledge the presence of Israeli agents operating on the ground in Iran, wishing “Happy New Year to every Iranian in the streets. Also to every Mossad agent walking beside them.”

I’m 100% certain this is true but it doesn’t mean the protests aren’t justified.

Iran basically spent it’s time stacking large quantities of wood while soaking it in gasoline and now they cry foul someone tossed a match in it.

The best way to avoid foreign interference at a protest level is by not treating your citizens like shit.

Being a victim of imperialism doesn’t mean getting a free pass to be a dick. I’ll need a lot more to actually side with Iran’s government, if that’s what you mean.

Ah the classic nothing is our responsibility ever. It is their fault! (and specially, it’s the west / or enemies fault!)

And I’ve seen people on lemmy going on about how it’s all the US’s fault because some reportclaimed us arms and supplies were discovered, but like…

You didn’t HAVE to kill thousands of people for what you still call a protest movement.

Whether protesters are backed by the west or not, the response to murder everyone at a protest is unquestionably wrong.

It is the west fault their economy crashed, it is the west fault they have no running water in the cities. It is the west fault the people dont want to live under one of the most oppresive regimenes in the world.

Must be nice to be a politician from a non-west nation, they can blame the west for everything.

No one in the west wants what is going to happen, Iran won’t be a livable place soon enough.

Man, and here’s Iran, always taking the high road, steadfastly refusing to attempt to influence Western countries using underhanded techniques - and what do they get for it? Foreign intervention! Well I never. I guess they’re just going to have to step up their game and start fucking with the West now eh? Sauce for the goose and all that!
