Yeah I kind of feel the same. For convergence I still think Android app compatibility is necessary, but It sounds like Waydroid has made some great advances since I last tried it.
I came to post this. I would have been super stoked, and I actually was when the Motorola Atrix was announced a lifetime ago, now my first reaction is “hell no!”.
I don’t get it. Google is just as bad, if not worse than Microslop when it comes to stripping their users of their privacy and control over their own devices. Why would that be an even remotely acceptable alternative to Windows?
Ask the overwhelming majority of people who think using a browser by the same manufacturer is the way to go.

Also, can we stop with the rounded corners on everything? What the fuck is even that about? I paid for pixels going all the way to the corner, I’d love for some fucking window or program that actually uses them. Even worse if multiple windows are tiled, now there are stupid little fucking gaps at the corners? Fuck your UI and fuck google for making knock-offs of apple products that have all of the downsides and, oh, some new and exciting downsides also. I don’t want a mobile “desktop” OS, or any other pervasive mobile tom-fuckery spreading to other corners of my life. Jesus tap-dancing christ, the enshittification of the world is about to knock on our doors and shit directly onto our chests every morning, steal our wallet, and then charge us a monthly fucking subscription.
Looks very much like Samsung Dex. Do Google Pixels have a similar “desktop” feature? If not, I bet this becomes it.

Could have made that taskbar vertical. Screens are getting narrower and narrower, but now we have a status bar at the top and a task bar at the bottom, plus each window has a titlebar
