The anger was consistent among figure skating fans on social media, who felt deceived that they couldn’t even watch the gala, which was supposed to be the sendoff for figure skating at the Olympics.
“Gala only available live and not as a replay is a crime,” said another fan to the original post, displaying their frustration.
We paid NBC for coverage two years ago and found out that while they steam all day coverage you can’t replay that coverage. I wanted to wake up, watch a stream that started 5-6 hours earlier and spend all day watching Olympics coverage, rinse and repeat. Instead I could only jump into the stream and rewind 3 hours max, so I immediately lost 2 hours. Then it was a mad rush to catch up to live because the minute coverage ends for the day the stream is removed and deleted with no easy to finish it let alone restart it.
Literally the worst experience. Surely there is a better system out there, especially since I’m willing to pay, but in the meantime a VPN and CBC’s coverage is okay. Maybe next Olympics I’ll have the energy to find a real solution.
CBC is the best way that I’ve found, just need a VPN and an account.
Fucking money grubbing bastards.
Surely this has nothing to do with the Olympic Committee’s draconian broadcast licenses…must all be NBCs fault…
Have they offered an explanation? Removing all figure skating replays seems like a surefire way to prompt an immediate and significant drop in viewership for their streaming service.
EDIT: I just checked. The gala replay is still available but replays of the rest of the figure skating events have been removed.
This is why arrchiving is important.
