You’re forgetting those MikroHick routers from Bumfuck, Alabama. They route all packages to “go back to their own country”.

They’ve played us for fools. Any x86 device or old computer with two ports can be a router. Make your own today!

The only allowed backdoor is a US backdoor I assume.

Anyone know if there are immediate practical implications of this? I get foreign made routers are now deemed a security risk, but

Previously purchased routers can still be used and retailers can still sell models that were approved by the prior FCC policies.

so it seems not much is changed? I’m curious what this means practically in the near term.

still quite concerning and stupid .

Edit: oh theyre banning imports apparently. Guess i didnt know the meaning of the Covered List? https://apnews.com/article/fcc-foreign-router-ban-national-security-technology-7e5333aeaf82496ce6350f57699db5ba

So will the US keep getting old model routers while the rest of the world gets the new stuff?

Its the lack of security risks that they object to.

So your costs of renting routers from your ISP are about to skyrocket.

What routers are even made in the US? Likely none that ISPs are currently using.

Are any routers made in the United States and theoretically compliant with this rule?
