      It’s not a fallacy when retreating would likely lead to Putin’s death.
      He knows the war can’t be won, but ending it would end his rule and likely his life, since he himself made a peaceful transition of power in Russia impossible.

    He isn’t fooling anybody anymore. Everybody knows it a war that Russia’s losing. He’s just trying to save face. Maybe he will come up with some kind of excuse that NATO is too big and a real threat, so they must retreat and develop better defenses or something like that.

      Unfortunately, the more realistic end of the war is a further widening of the grey area between the fronts, caused by better drone tech, until it’s completely impossible to cross it.
      That turns the grey area into a de facto demilitarized zone, and eventually a de facto new border.
