Whoever decided to put a rectangular table in a curved space is completely unqualified to make design decisions.
That table is going to demand so many legs in sacrifice…
And if there are toddlers around, maybe an eye or two…
Just looking at it makes my shins hurt

went from cozy to clinical
ever since the 90s, theres been a concerted effort to delete Whimsy from design, aesthetics, and style, and reduce everything to black, beiges, greys and white.
thats what the exterior of my house is. inside is more like the first shot color scheme
Bullshit. Someone just used an ai filter on a picture for internet points.
The AI even kept the CRT TV in the “after” pic lmao
Nothing says Modern Decor like a CRT TV
What do you guys use for a TV stand?

CRTs are peak for retro gaming
But I can’t imagine the kind of person who would love retro gaming would destroy such a beautiful room like this
Holy shit indeed… The reflection on it is identical too…
Love they left the structural fireplace CRT TV. god I’m tired of AI rage slop
It’s load bearing.
You never built a crt into your fireplace? It’s super effective. I stacked my vcr and dvd player on top into the chimney.
I love how everyone thinks they hate modernism too when they see something like this, but it started out as mid century modern
‘Modern’ always seems to boil down to ‘drain all the color’.
Change out the carpet, fine, but why that God awful laminate?Update the cushions, great. Paint the beams and fireplace, short term thinking to destroy something that will now forever need work and updating. I hope you drywalled over the wall panels and didn’t just slap paint on them. It is a current “look”. Will be out of date/trend in a couple years - far shorter than the other look that took 30 years to be dated and now would be retro.
That grey laminate flooring pisses me off like nothing else in cheap home remodeling. It’s embossed with wood grain but what fucking real wood is grey like that? It’s the 2020s equivalent of 1970s faux wood paneling.
Pretty much all untreated wood turns grey when exposed to prolonged sunlight?
That being said, I don’t like that look in flooring. On a weathered fence or log cabin it’s fine.
I’m very certain, that ChickenLady and Bubba know what real greyish wood looks like. You also know, it’s not like this.
Ancient abandoned barns in the countryside tend to have grey wood like that, usually full of holes though
You monochrome types should just use e-ink screens for your computer.
I will never understand people that paint hardwoods or natural stone with white paint.
That whole phase where everyone was painting their kitchens white killed me. That ruined so many gorgeous cabinets.
I can at least understand the kitchens. It’s nice to know a surface is actually clean. Drives me insane the amount of kitchens I’ve seen with countertops that constantly look spattered with food.
They painted the beams… they. Painted. The beams.
It looks like a prison.
My uncle used to design and build houses. Normally he didn’t work for anyone - he’d take out a loan, buy a piece of land, design a house custom fit to the contours of the land, subcontract some parts, but he did the carpentry with some hired help, and when it was all done, he’d sell it (he was a realtor too) and as far as I know always made a profit, though some did better than others…
One year I went to work for him. But he was doing it differently that time, some wealthy developer had hired him to build his own house. I remember him talking about what a big mistake that was turning out to be, the guy kept changing his mind about what he wanted when we were halfway done with something - for example when he saw the rough openings for the windows, he decided they weren’t big enough and he wanted bigger. Problem was, my uncle had already ordered the windows (custom sized of course) and they were already built, just not delivered yet… But the guy had money to burn, so he paid for both sets… Anywho, my uncle had designed the roof to be held up by some hefty beams, and had intended them to be unpainted, so had sourced the high quality (expensive) ones. After we set the beams- most by crane, but one short one was in such an odd position we had to do it by hand- heaviest thing I’ve ever lifted and I only had one end… a motorcycle engine was light in comparison… anywho, he brought his wife to look at the progress, she took one look at the beams and said “… and we’ll paint those lavender…” I could just about hear the steam coming from my uncle’s ears.
Beams? Mf, they painted the rocks!
I’m never hiring a home designer.

I’m fine with the 2010s era minimalist decor.
But painting over stone and high quality wood panels is crazy. If you want the minimalist look, then this wasn’t the house you start with. Fucking Beetlejuice ass joists.
Fucking Beetlejuice ass joists.
LOL i knew the room reminded me of something!
Anyone read that in Hank Hill’s voice? It even feels in character with how into that whole neighborhood parade of homes competition thing he was.
Dale, if it gets one shade more gray in here, I’m gonna kick your ass!
I can’t smoke a pipe in my tweeds here! It would look ridiculous.
How very dystopian.
Only issue with the left photo is the carpet. Replace it with plank/tile and it’s all good.
Wood paneling needs to go too
Wood paneling is so pretty though!
Meh, it can be in the right setting. Not sure it is here.
