“Successful” capitalists only see investment opportunities because they literally have nothing to fear. The water shortages won’t materially affect them so they just see a new market as a game to be won.

It’s going to be much too late when the populace wakes up to the reality that the only way things get better for them is if things get a lot worse for the oligarchs.

We’re cattle and chattel. Until we decide otherwise.

Totally. But acting without the numbers and proper organization, we’re just cattle and chattel dead or behind bars.

Which is why billionaire T. Boone Pickens bought a ton of water rights back in the 90s and early 2000s. NY Times late to the party as usual.

      looks him up

Everything about that dude screamed “American version of a Charles Dickens villain”, from his name to his face to everything he ever did.

Only thing missing was his comeuppance 😮‍💨

How do you write an article like that and then just like… keep breathing… as if you’re a human being deserving of living or something?

The New York Times and other traditional papers have a tendency to write headlines like that in order to attract attention. When you read it, nine times out of ten you realise they’re not actually endorsing it and the article itself presents a much more reasonable take on it.

Newspapers editors write this stuff with the assumption that you will read it, not just screenshot it and post it online. Maybe that’s not a good assumption in the age of short attention spans, but it’s what they do.

This is the reason the US wants to make Canada the “51’s state”. They want our water, our oil, our minerals, but not our people. It was always going to be this way, but here we are…now.

We should go the other direction. Let Canada take over the Northern US; states like Michigan and Wisconsin are basically Canada already (at least parts of them).

Cue confused Midwestern progressives feeling simultaneously outraged and flattered 😁

Just take over every bordering state, and any state that would be cut off from the rest of the US due to such a move (e.g. Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island).

And every time Trump threatens Canada once again, just repeat the process - excluding DC of course.

Watch “Extrapolations” (pirate it so you don’t give CrApple money). It’s a quite sober take on what could happen if we continue with business as usual.
