Prime Minister Mark Carney’s second federal budget allocates tens of billions of dollars in new spending to tackle what the government describes as the twin challenges of our time: improving affordability in an era of high prices and securing Canada’s sovereignty as it faces external threats.
The budget’s new big-ticket items include generous tax measures designed to prompt an “investment supercycle,” increased GST rebates to help with the cost of living, an $11.2-billion cash injection to tackle homelessness and one of the largest investments in Canadian arts, culture and identity in recent history to bolster national pride.

That won’t do anything for us either. You’ll accomplish changing what the classes look like, but you’ll still be on the bottom only you’ll have the government telling you what you need as though you’re a child.

Would you prefer to stay there because the government says you should? Because that’s how you get that. Nationalizing everything, for example, includes housing. Do you want the government deciding you don’t need to live where you currently are, or someone else needs your house more than you do? Because that’s how you get that.
More funding for the CBC? Poilievre and the entire conservative party must be incensed and outraged that we waste taxpayer dollars on the CBC, when we could trust our cultural domain to American owned businesses like the Globe and Mail or Hollywood’s branch plant filming in Canada.
There is a reason the conservatives are the ones promoting separatism in Quebec and Alberta. The federal conservatives want to defund the CBC because they are all aching to be the 51st state.
CPC should seriously start distancing themselves from the Reform Party nutjobs.

QS is a tiny minority. The PQ are the ones in power and they are both separatist and conservative.
The high price part is easy. Do a windfall tax on grocery chains and oil companies. Create state-owned grocery stores with affordable prices. Tax the rich. Make Canada build public housing for the people like he fucking promised.

And with many of Canada’s big cities grappling with a post-COVID surge in people sleeping rough, one of the single largest line items in this budget is a major funding envelope for programs designed to end homelessness over the next decade.
Much of that money will be used to build new transitional and supportive housing, which pairs modest living quarters with health and mental care, to get people off the streets. There’s also $2 billion to build new infrastructure to help those grappling with substance abuse.
