Overly dramatic I’d say. I would have liked less movement of the drone to be able to better judge the movement of the rocket.

I’d rather force safety requirements on all cars. Like limiting blind spots at the front and everywhere else, limiting speeds of vehicles above certain weights, increasing license requirements for vehicles that have higher safety impact etc.

I don’t know how remote your mountains are, here there would likely be a charge point less than 50km away but I don’t know where you drive. I give you that.

Your second point though, you might want to reconsider your driving habits. Random google result for breaks when driving: “If driving long distances, you should stop for at least 15 minutes every two hours. Stop often to rest for at least 45 minutes every 4.5 hours of driving to avoid getting tired and stay alert. Plan to stop for a break every 100 miles on your long road trip so that you can relax. Try to only drive for 9 hours a day.”

How so, I’m curious? Do you drive into no mans land hundreds of miles away from civilization or are you a robot that never needs to take a break?

But this just looks like a standard work truck. Maybe the back is full of tools? Maybe he’s going camping. Camping is dope.

Sure. Two issues though.

• Small trucks like they used to build a while ago would be better at pretty much all of those use cases than the monsters that get build today
• big trucks have become the default for people that never do any of those things

So as a result, there are way more way bigger vehicles on the road endangering all road users and wasting resources for no benefit besides lining the pockets of the manufacturers.

Some are, and yet they still have better visibility and lower center of gravity and fuel economy etc.

It probably would be in the US, but laws and regulations are different in Europe. The US favors huge heavy towing vehicles and higher tongue weights to allow for higher speeds, Europe limits speeds and allows for normal cars and more balanced trailers. We also have lower speed limits for semi-trailers and similar vehicles, so they fit right in.

Yeah, a lot of laws seem to favor trucks in the US. The vehicles aren’t different, the laws and regulations are.

I know the car we used to pull our camper back in the early 80ies (Alfa Sud) had different towing limits for trailers with and without brakes. No idea about general limits for trailers, but if your car has those limits you better not be caught exceeding those.

In the US, in Europe trailers are much more balanced however the speed limit for trailers is lower.

Probably a result of how legislation is designed for different towing strategies. From what I’ve seen, the US favors trailers with higher hitch weight and axles further back, requiring more substantial and heavy towing vehicles, but allowing for higher speeds. In Europe, trailers are more balanced with hitch weights in the 100-150lbs range, but speed limits are lower (50ish mph).

But cars have their place.

True. However with all the downsides of cars, they should be only the fallback if most other options don’t work. As it is, in many places, they are the highest priority that everything is planned around.

And usage of space. And money, at least if you include all the externalities.

That was a bit exaggerated, but tbh. areas where you have to use the car should be the exception, not the rule. Places where you have to drive to do stuff are a nightmare for everyone too old, too young or otherwise not able/allowed to drive or to afford a car.

That is not entirely correct. Look for example at Switzerland.

Sure, there are limits, you probably won’t have a train station at every farm 50 miles from everything else, but you also don’t need large cities to make it work at all.

That is as local as it gets around here. We don’t have subways or street cars, it’s either busses (diesel) or train (motor coach actually) for even single digit km distances.

But yeah, it is real rail, not some separate local network.

Not everywhere. There are still enough lines that aren’t electrified so diesel locomotives have to be used.
