  • at that price point. you’re beyond the range of any functional difference. and buying brand whoring status.

your “best” watch would be a reasonably priced certified diver. Or a seiko with a spring drive.

anything else is just style/personal taste.

best bet is to do some research. do simple google searches, for “best watches under 5k” and start looking for something that speaks to you.

personally I would avoid cheaper brand whore brands, like tudor (or if you want a tudor… just keep an eye on a forum like watch exchange. it seems like rolex bros unload their tudors for dirt cheap once they get their sky dweller or lose their mid lvl finance jobs) Or even Omega, being the most expensive swatch there is. I’d say try and go for an actual watch brand, and not an umbrella IP or some companies cheaper knock off range.

and you can probably get a lot more for that 4k if you buy used/or older watches, than buying something new/retail. hell… if you want a rolex, there’s tons of them below 5k. as prices have come down.

for my money. I’d look at the breitling superocean or even something funky like the Seiko tuna

something that isn’t the same old basic bitch tudor black bay. or omega speedy.

  • a promise is not a legal contract.

his promise is also a shitty thing, and sequestering assets from his wife is a shitty thing (for all the incel shitty mens rights nonsense… when you’re married, your assets and debts are shared. his money is not his, it’s “theirs”) those watches are just as much hers as they were his.

regardless of his promise. the right and legal thing to do, is to contact the family, let them know that you have some of the deceased property and would like to return it.

you aren’t obligated to say anything more. than… he chose to store the items with you, and you’re returning them.

but you’re a shitty person if you try and steal the items. they’re are the “estates” and more than likely the wive’s

  • hamilton khaki. if you like the field watch look. nothing really better or will top this watch, lots of different variants. not really a bracelet watch, but lots of strap options

seiko panda quartz chrono. snazzy as fuck, punches way above its weight class/price point

Seiko alpinist(either buy one with a bracelet or get one from strapcode or whatnot). some of the dials on these are out of this fucking world. the blue glacier variant is unmatched. but the OG green seiko alpinist. is still solid. —i would get this watch. maybe decide if a non-green variant speaks to you. but the flexibility. casual on a strap. or more sleek on a bracelet. might push your budge a bit. but… Seiko Alpinist is a watch you can keep forever.

tissot PRX. personally i dislike the look of this watch, but for the specs, it’s well regarded. there are different color options. maaaaaybe pick one not so common.

if you want the german bauhaus look that’s popular in engineering and certain coder circles (think rigid minimalist) sternglas is the “micro brand” 400-600 alternative to the junghams $1k ish max bill.

you could also go g-shock casio-oak. gm2100 get a good bracelet for it. or full metal g-shock is just an all around solid watch. digital. but rock solid nerd cred.

Other brands you could look at Orient. the kamasu is a great entry lvl watch. bambino…slightly dressier. Timex, other non gshock casios. lots of good check watches there. Seiko. has literally a bajillion watches. cocktail time. “pressage” watches. there’s also slightly less clunky seiko 5s. like the srpj81 just a dirt simple seiko.

only thing you 100% want to avoid are bullshit fashion brands. no guci, or fucking department store branded shit. And… i would avoid micro brands, anything on like an IG page or facebook ad only.
