“To the Feds, I’ll keep this short, because I do respect what you do for our country. To save you a lengthy investigation, I state plainly that I wasn’t working with anyone. This was fairly trivial: some elementary social engineering, basic CAD, a lot of patience. The spiral notebook, if present, has some straggling notes and To Do lists that illuminate the gist of it. My tech is pretty locked down because I work in engineering so probably not much info there. I do apologize for any strife of traumas but it had to be done. Frankly, these parasites simply had it coming. A reminder: the US has the #1 most expensive healthcare system in the world, yet we rank roughly #42 in life expectancy. United is the [indecipherable] largest company in the US by market cap, behind only Apple, Google, Walmart. It has grown and grown, but as our life expectancy? No the reality is, these [indecipherable] have simply gotten too powerful, and they continue to abuse our country for immense profit because the American public has allwed them to get away with it. Obviously the problem is more complex, but I do not have space, and frankly I do not pretend to be the most qualified person to lay out the full argument. But many have illuminated the corruption and greed (e.g.: Rosenthal, Moore), decades ago and the problems simply remain. It is not an issue of awareness at this point, but clearly power games at play. Evidently I am the first to face it with such brutal honesty.”
That’s it? That’s the whole thing? This is what all the censorship buzz is all about? This reads like an unremarkable angsty Reddit comment. Every single social platform is filled with countless of these.
I guess this is qualitatively different because this is him describing something he actually did after the fact rather than the meaningless posturing most other people do. At that point though, is it still even “inciting violence”? The violence was already incited. I don’t see him explicitly threatening more or rallying others to do more. “Here’s why I did the thing” is not the same thing as “I’m going to do the thing” or “you should do the thing, too”.
The censorship of this is stupid. I hope this gets Streisand’d to the heavens.
they’re terrified of it.
Uncle Ted for the Twitter generation
Fuck Reddit!
Spez is scared. He has pissed off a bunch of people but he hasn’t denied healthcare too them so he is just a reactionary coward.
The guy that thinks he would definitely be a leader if society were to collapse is actually a giant piss-baby? Who would’ve thunk it…
he hasn’t denied healthcare
Unless he fired those people. America!
Oh I’m sure he has fired someone for that type of reason but it you dig too far down into any chain of events you can find someone who more at fault for something. The healthcare dick though. He took a direct active roll in killing people through neglect whereas spez is just a drive by menace.
Reddit also has policies against posting violence, but apparently it doesn’t count if you post Ukrainians or Israelis proudly showing off their slaughter.
Reddit allows violence, so long as it is in line with the status quo.
Reddit allows violence, so long as it isn’t against the rich.
is in line with the status quo. This is more to the point.
There used to be subs like watchpeopledie and makemycoffin. I barely use reddit anymore but i wouldnt he suprised if there was still a part that has similar content.
Exactly. They banned those and began enforcing strict bans on violent content. Until the Ukraine war, and they wanted to assist in propaganda, so the popular page started getting flooded with some gruesome shit. Though I don’t really see how that helped drum up any support for the war.
lol @ the downvoters, go join one of those literally fascist militaries if you love them so much 🙃
Using those specific examples, you must be naive to not think 100% of people reading this would see you as a moron.
I’m not sure 100% of people would cheer for somebody with a black sun on their uniform, or someone shooting a child.
A Reddit spokesperson, who asked to remain anonymous citing safety concerns, says that manifestos related to violent acts have “long violated our Content Policy” but that “discussion is allowed as long as it doesn’t violate other aspects of our violence policies (e.g., glorification, incitement).”
“You can discuss it, but we don’t want you to read the thing you’re discussing.”
Someone should post the Declaration of Independence, see if that gets removed for being a “manifesto related to violent acts.”
Remember the human. Reddit is a place for creating community and belonging, not for attacking marginalized or vulnerable groups of people.
Those poor, poor marginalized and vulnerable CEOs.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
Yep, definitely inciting violence.
Will it matter if people just go watch a Netflix show where the good guys win & feel better?
It’s simpler, they just don’t want to moderate the discussion. Reddit mods are shit a best.
This edict doesn’t come from mods, it comes from admins.
Seems like a textbook example of why federation is better than something owned by some rich assholes
I think about famous photo of the pirate bay cofounder.
These are the people we want to manage the internet, not someone who blocks information because it pisses off their billionaire friends.
Meanwhile Russia and China are making their own little “internets” for their citizens to make a nice neat little box where nary a bad thought can find it’s way into the public sphere. And here in the U.S. we’ve been fighting off such measure for over 2 decades but now the Republicans have the house, the Senate and their useful idiot, they can go to town.
It’s gonna be high time to start looking more heavily into mesh networks than ever before.
Fighting such fuckery? You guys have been leading the charge since Bush. Ever hear of the PATRIOT Act? Gimmie a break, man.
I think Reddit ToS has something about condoning or inciting violence which is being used to broadly in my opinion.
Inciting violence is a crime in most of the world. Celebrating someone being dead is just considered rude by social norms. There is a huge difference.
Condoning violence is meaningless without proper definition as it can mean many things in many contexts. That’s why it’s important to look at the context of each individual post or comment.
Lemmy used similar excuses…
Wrong Person got wacked and we being told that it is a tragedy
If he would be brown and from a third world country the media would either celebrate or not care
That’s a price ruling is willing to pay, a made man from their cartel is being wacked cant go unpunished
This is mob 101
Yepp, they go hard even in smaller communities. Seems to be some automated system handing out warnings and bans left and right.
The words are upsetting their AI baby.
Slightly off topic, but yesterday at the top of my Lemmy feed there was a screenshot of a slack channel where (supposedly nyt journalists) were discussing either posting his writings or images of his face.
I went back to look for it and can’t find it. Anybody know where I can find it?
https://www.kenklippenstein.com/p/ny-times-doesnt-want-you-to-see-mangiones
He’s been doing incredible work.
ok, so will someone post a link to it here, just for Streisand effect purposes?
It has been posted to Lemmy so much and so often at this point that I don’t know how anyone could miss it.
I had come across it somewhere before posting the above request, wasn’t quickly able to find it again anymore though. I wasn’t genuinely interested in reading it again, it was more of a rhetorical request to demonstrate the Streisand effect.
Israeli politicians and pundits call for violence and genocide against defenseless civilians in Gaza and nobody bats an eye but one member of a tier of people that make enough money to hire their own private army gets capped, and everyone loses their mind.
If your job requires you to ruin people’s lives or cause their untimely death, it is reasonable to assume that you would need private security. I hate to victim blame (not really) but it seems to me that it was UHC CEO’s own fault that he got taken out by an amateur. I’d say do better next time but…
I really don’t think there could be a worse way to present this information 😅
Make it look inconspicuous. Its just a silly meme! Theres nothing else here. What’s so dangerous about a bunch of words?
What the hell with that font, my eyes just died.
Thanks for the post though.
Impact is the standard meme font, with an outline to ensure readability no matter what its used on. That said, its meant for single line memes, not full manifestos.
And, sigh, if you didn’t notice, cramped up on a white background, making it unreadable. Which I think is not the goal of this meme.
What are you trying to convey? The choice is shitty at best.
Its a meme image and thus using the standard meme font setup. I thought I was fairly clear when I explained that.
I also stated it was a poor choice even if it was thematically accurate to its usage on a meme, owing to the meme usage of the font normally being a single line.
If I was unclear in my initial comment, please quote the part of my comment that confused you into thinking I was arguing with you, for my own future reference. Thanks in advance.
Your whole post could have been condensed to “yes, it is bad”. Instead you started explaining meme fonts which had nothing to do with anything. You even acknowledged it being a poor use if the font for multi line memes, which wasn’t adding anything either.
Their post wasn’t saying yes, it’s bad, it was explaining that the goal was resembling a meme, and agreeing that that choice impacted readability. Being less than perfectly readable doesn’t make it bad - the joke is just the manifesto resembling a meme, so it’s only got to be readable enough to be recognisable as the manifesto for the joke to work.
Now you’re overexplaining again.
Wow leave it to the Zionist to have a shit take on everything else too.
I guess spez is asking for the UHC treatment.
Always has been
.world did too didn’t it?
As I understood it, they clarified that we’re not allowed to call for violence and stuff like that. The manifesto itself is fine.
They locked the news post entirely because some comments weren’t bootlicking. My comment was removed for saying “can’t imagine why that happened” which neither “calls for nor celebrates violence” as the mod stated, the latter “celebrating” being his or her invention to broaden the scope of the censoring of comments outside the stated server and community rules.
I’m current researching alternatives and have no idea where to go. I’m pretty drained after a year on Lemmy trying to make this work. I’d look at mastodon but seems like it’s more Twitter than longer form discussion and boards.
Even when dealing with bullshit like this, trying to “rules lawyer” online when a moderation group has made their stance known loud and clear rarely works out well.
Also, just in the rare case you didn’t know, Lemmy is more than just .world. It’s not like Reddit where you’re just stuck with the Reddit admins.
You could register an account on any instance you want. The overwhelming majority of them would still allow you to interact with content from .world, but the worst the .world admins could do would be to ban you from a .world version of a “subreddit”.
I’ve been very happy with the admin of lemmy.dbzer0.com, a former mod (I think former head mod) of the piracy subreddit that resigned with the API mess. Doesn’t seem to take action lightly or capriciously, content to let the community make decisions through open discussion and polls rather than just iron fist their wishes through.
Former head mod or piracy. I built it from the ground-up in fact. Didn’t resign. Got admin-removed (potentially coup-ed) because I blacked out the sub and pushed very actively towards a lemmy migration (which is why /c/piracy is thriving)
Also former top mod of /r/anarchism (x2) but I demoted myself voluntarily (x2) when I got asked nicely :D
Thanks for this; found what instance I’m migrating to.
If you otherwise like lemmy I’d recommend dbzer0 or lemm.ee. Both are kinda large instances which ideally would be avoided, but both of them are also very fair with moderation and don’t defederate from many places, which means you can decide whether or not to block one on your own. I also have heard decent stuff about .zip, so that might be worth checking out.
It does suck how many communities ended up centralized on .world, but a lot of the news related ones that are the most susceptible to over-moderation have fairly active alternatives on other instances.
Thanks; a few dbzero recommendations in addition to your own so maybe I’ll give that a go. I was aware of the structure of Lemmy and it’s options of server choice but like many, I started on .world as I assumed being the biggest fish in a small pond would at least yield the most content and users (which was the beauty of reddit) we can all agree content and participation is still a struggle even on .world so I haven’t tried other instances. I’ll at least try that before moving on.
content and participation is still a struggle even on .world so I haven’t tried other instances
Content and participation is the same on other instances, you can access the same communities than on LW. You can simply export and import your subscriptions lists from the settings
Dbzer0 is where I went and after seeing all the content I wasn’t seeing because world had defederated, I’m really enjoying myself.
You can try !usa@midwest.social
Whether or not that’s exactly what happened, that’s a moderator action, not an admin action, and if you disagree with it, you can just join or start a different news community without stressing about moving your account to another instance (which isn’t a huge hassle anyway - if you use the settings import/export tool, all your subscriptions etc. can come with you).
Come to lemmy.zip!
I think .world’s reasoning was that it’s “unreliable source” rather than “NO MANIFESTO ALOWED!!!”
A LW mod said that the manifesto would be allowed
If it’s confirmed, I don’t see why not. Depends on the community, of course. I’m sure !lemmybewholesome would remove it.
Their reasoning was spez doesn’t want to give anyone ideas.
I mean .world admins
