So almost every team has played their first game except for Philly and Milwaukee who will play later today. Let’s have this post be a fun artifact we can look back on at the end of the season and see what we were right about and what we were wrong about. here are my overreactions from the limited basketball i’ve watched and yes I am going out of my way to overreact:
- Russell Westbrook is once again That guy
- Anthony Davis can NEVER be the best player on the Lakers
- Brandon Miller > Scoot and Wemby
- Zion Williamson MVP year?
- Ben Simmons career is over
- The Lakers are screwed without Dennis Schroeder
- Cade Cunningham and the Pistons are legit? All-star debut?
- Trae Young can’t shoot anymore
Steph Curry is not a top-10 player, sorry but you lost to Phoenix by 4, that’s embarassment
The AD take I think needs a tweak. He can be the best player on the Lakers. He cannot be the best player on any team wanting to contend so long as he cannot bring it consistently.
As for my own take, the Nuggets bench is going to surprise people (in a good way for the Nuggets, bad for the rest of the league).
Brandon Miller and Mark Williams really did both look absolutely awesome. Brandon Miller has a really high floor. He can really shoot it, he can legitimately defend, and he is a solid ball mover and has some passing chops. He’s gonna be a solid role player early on. I’m pretty high on the season he’s gonna have this year.
Go to r/ripcity and some people who clearly didn’t watch the game are calling to trade our best player (Anfernee)
League fucked
Bone Hyland leap is a real thing
Jaime Jaquez Jr for ROTY
Boston should’ve kept Grant Williams and let Jaylen Brown walk
Pistons lost to the defending east champions by 1 point? Well they are surely to win their next 5 games
Gonna have to see how Milwaukee looks, and I was a big fan of their move - thought they were by far the favourites. Man, even though the Celtics won by just 4, they looked damn good. When they’re locked in defensively, scoring on them looks really tough. Their starting 5’s worst defender is Jaylen Brown, which is absurd.
Suns also looked very good - 4 point W, but Gordon/Allen who are both very good 3 point shooters were bricking wide open looks. For all of the concerns regarding Nurkic, he looked much very good - was good defensively, but how he fit offensively was like a glove with how fluid the PnR with him/Book looks already and how he navigates 4-on-3s if Booker got doubled. The scary part is this was all without Beal. Defensively there were miscommunications, but that’s to be expected with so many new players and a new system, but when there weren’t they looked like they could have a top-10 defense. Feels like they’re just loaded with snipers if you do double Booker/KD, Yuta is such an underrated acquisition too.
I think simmons will have a solid year.
