Not that complicated if you have competent, level-headed, selfless leaders. But unfortunately we have a bunch of geriatrics with lead poisoned brains behaving like elementary school bullies.

Even competent, sane leaders can get it badly wrong.

          lead poisoned brains

Their brains are poisoned by conservatism and corruption (yeah, I know, overlapping categories). The whole lead story is grotesquely exaggerated, mainly by the Freakonomics people, who make even Malcolm Gladwell seem credible.

      It’s not just that…

The trump admin is full of sycophants focused on short term grfits. In an operation like that, taking out the leader makes everything fall apart.

Iran’s government is a legitimate evil theocratic regime.

Kill the top 100 guys, and it really wouldnt slow anything down once the dust settled and bodies counted.

Everyone would just move up to fill the gaps and business would (is) proceeding as normal. That also means they have people planning shit long term.

Gas prices will be absolutely insane for the month or two before election. Because it means trump has to keep burning strategic reserves to not lose the House/Senate. Even if Republicans maintain majorities so they can continue the war, it places trump in a bad position for negotiations after.

It’s a no brainer move to shit the straite down, but I guarantee no one in our government is planning for it besides insider trading.

Ask Iranians who have left the country. Rule by religious reactionaries is hellish, wherever in the world it happens. The fact that Trump and his mob are gangsters doesn’t in any way imply that there are no other assholes in the world.

trump lost this war in the first 48 hours. because he is a child and is unable to take the L and move on, this will last until he is removed from office.

Iran controls Hormuz and is menacing the red sea, so they’ll be able to drive up global oil prices whenever they feel like.

I’m not sure if this is the worst geopolitical mistake the usa has ever made, but it’s in the top 5 for sure.

Probably the most interesting observation I’ve seen in days on the subject.

Although he could fuck it up so badly that USA has to pull out of this one.
I keep suspecting Trump will be forced to pull out, but the longer it takes, the less likely it seems.

Start a war and then say he can‘t leave office due to (insert bullshit war-related reason here) or something.

The rules don‘t mean anything if nobody follows them or enforces them.

I don’t believe it’ll end after he leaves office. Obama sat in Afghanistan for two whole terms, then Trump dragged his feet for one, then Biden only pulled us out because it was easier than getting run out Saigon style when he still had an excuse to blame Trump for the defeat.

The President who inherets Trump’s mess in Iran will bring in some new military brass convinced they can do war better than Hegseth did. And then we get to spend four more years letting them prove themselves wrong.

That’s not how it happened. Trump surrendered to the Taliban before he left office, then left the withdrawal to Biden as a final turd on the coffee table.

Trump surrendered to the Taliban before he left office

The US military had already been losing ground in Afghanistan for years. There was no “winning” in Afghanistan for the US any more than there had been for Russia 30 years prior. Trump oversaw a negotiated peace (which he renegged on before he’d even left office and then Biden rennegged on as soon as he was in office) and began officially recalling units from the front lines. Biden choose to continue withdrawing troops because it was exhausting US military resources far in excess of any perceived value.

      Why bother?

The fix has been in with Iran for decades. Even half the Democrats seem happy enough to bomb and butcher their way through the county. They’re just upset that Hegseth is a criminally incompetent commander.

If gas prices hadn’t spiked, most Americans wouldn’t care one way or another. And those that did would be screamed at for supporting Radical Islamic Terror. Just like after the Iraq invasion.

The real sin of our Iran War has been Trump losing so badly.

I suspect Trump will ultimately suffer the same embarrassment as Carter, with Iran rapidly reaching a peace deal with his successor.

Except Iran has lost all trust in USA, and probably won’t trust an agreement even with a new administration.
It will probably have to be total acceptance of all Iranian terms. Including compensation for damages.

I don’t think the Iranians ever trusted the US all that much. Just enough to make a treaty.

And yeah, Trump is the one who tore that treaty up, and then waged an unprovoked war, so the least bad option for the Iranians is to make him eat crow, feathers and all, until hopefully he chokes on it.

Nah. The best an adult could do would be to pull out of the region, but even if the US did that, there is no way Iran willingly goes back to the previous status quo. Iran controls the strait and the oil flow now, and it knows it. It has absolutely no reason not to fuck with the world’s oil supply at whim, whenever anybody does something it or its allies don’t like.

This is just one of the many ways Trump has done permanent damage to the world that can’t be undone even after he’s out of office/imprisoned/dead.
