I miss when reading from top-to-bottom was standard. Now, occasionally, we have to read middle-to-bottom-to-top-to-middle.

These republicans are shooting themselves in the foot. When the most milquetoast reforms imaginable get called communism, it doesn’t make progressivism less popular, it just makes communism sound good.

Cap top-end wages by regulating a minimum wage that can be no less than 5% of the top pay in that company, (and calling out shell companies so we don’t get a situation where the CEOs’ are technically “managing consultants” to avoid this rule.)

During the 1950-60s (the best period for income inequality) CEO pay was ~30x the company average. If you want to key the limit to the company minimum as percentage of maximum, something between 1-2% would get you to a good place.

edit: A possibly better option would be to tax executive compensation in a way that you don’t tax payroll. Though I don’t know enough to suggest the details with that.

Uh, that’s easy. Progressive taxation, above whatever amount the % increases drastically.

That’s different. That’s based purely on the amount. And I’m not just talking about salary, but compensation, including stock options, expense accounts, and other benefit packages that executives get beyond salary.

These assholes wouldn’t know communism if it walked right up and seized their means of production. Taking care of your own people just means you’re doing a good job as a government.

It means you’re not in danger of those people doing what people do. They’ve forgotten what people do.

      EXACTLY!

All those things that the meme mentions are something that the government should be looking into regardless of what economy they institute!

      I’m paying $2,000 a month for a three bedroom that shouldn’t cost anywhere above $1100 a month!

I went to home Depot last night bought some cockroach traps, Teflon tape a plunger and a short length of stainless steel tubing for $30. What’s up on tables 98 cents the plunger was $4 the box of cockroach traps was eight bucks and the length of tubing was $15! And none of the prices make any sense!

Direct price controls like that, are generally a bad idea. Often, unintended consequences make the underlying problem worse.

For drug prices, most are created with substantial government funded research. The government could leverage that into a major patent ownership stake, then immediately license the drug for generic production.

For child care, the government could give a monthly stipend to all parents. Parents could then decide, use it for child care, or quit/cut hours to care for your kid yourself.

I’m not sure about interest rate limits; That might work. But 10% is kinda low. Maybe someplace between 15-20%. And credit cards aren’t even the worst offenders. Pay day loans are much worse, with rates over 200% sometimes.

I did 6th, 7th and 8th grade in small town Oklahoma 20 years ago so I have first hand experience. Curious to know how bad it’s gotten since the advent of classroom iPads and ai, especially since they’ve maintained their bottom rankings.

My 8th grade geography teacher was the wrestling coach. He had a projector with slides that matched the text book, and would just scroll through then reading off the screen so class. All of our assignments were in the textbook, which also has the answers printed in them. And that is what he used to grade the assignments. I got an award for “excellence in geography” at the end of the year, but I know for a fact it’s because I was in his class first in the mornings and I set up the projector for him because he didn’t know how. A bunch of my classes were similarly struggling.

I feel bad for the teachers looking back, they were doing their best but had fuckall to work with.

This tweet is extremely funny if you’re aware of the fact that Richard Nixon also instituted price controls.

Nixon is, indeed, too far left to be accepted by the modern RNC.

Calling progressives Communists and Marxists started with Hitler. Even after the war it was carried on by Fascists. From Wikipedia:

    Origins

The phrase “cultural Marxism” to mean a cultural attack from the left aimed at destroying society and installing Marxism/Bolshevism can be traced back to the 1930s, appearing in the 1938 July-September volume of “British Union Quarterly”, the journal of The British Union of Fascists.[11][12] The short essay claims the source of cultural Marxism is the “deracinated” nature of “city-dwelling”, and the “indiscriminate toleration-psychosis of liberalism, inherent in Social-Democracy”.[11][13]

It’s not pointed out enough that Conservatism is Cultural Fascism.
