Gizmodo also basically just copy and pasted from Krebs on Security.

Yes, but unfortunately, I’ve sometimes found blog posts to be rejected by our moderators even if credible and the primary research source. So unless I choose a recognised news publisher’s article instead, I risk having my post removed.

Nah, I think hanlon’s razor is right this time. I can totally see some of the new White House staff falling for that

The complete lack of affirmative consent. The massive risks it puts on the people running them unknowingly. The theft of bandwidth.

That’s the cyber space equivalent of being able to park your fishing boat right next to an aircraft carrier

Somali pirates seem to be quite effective with their fishing boats though

Not really. I did some counter-piracy when I was in the Navy. Those guys weren’t looking for people who fight back. As soon as we showed up they’d immediately surrender.

I mean, that’s just a silly way to look at it.

What exactly can they do against a modern warship besides scratch the paint?

Can’t outrun them, can’t hurt them, can’t even get off their radar, no shit you surrender, or otherwise people just meme you.

And they should be memed because only someone that is flat out stupid would think they had a chance.

It’s pretty easy to capture unarmed sailors on a freight ship that tops out at 15kts.
