The price of building solar and wind is going down everyday. Natural gas will only continue to increase in price as more and more public pressure mounts towards ending our use of fossil fuels. Coal is already not economically viable without government subsidies. Betting on the cost of fossil fuels staying low is a losing strategy.

For a 700k salary I would 100% take the risk. Don’t change your lifestyle after you get the job and just pocket the extra cash. If you get fired having Netflix on your resume should allow you to find a new position fast enough to come out on top of the deal provided that you are able to make it a few months at Netflix.

If you are fortunate enough to have 3-6 months of expenses in an emergency fund then there is very little downside as long as you are able to maintain the correct headspace.

I’m fairly certain this is showing an exponential trend in CO2 emissions, not a linear trend. The slope changes as a function of time. Linear isn’t really a good fit for the data.

I didn’t go into tech for the money, but after several years of grinding I’m definitely at the point where I’m only still in it for the money. I don’t even want to think about computers outside of work anymore.

The number of code snippets that can be copied and pasted and fit your use-case exactly is almost 0. The number of those code snippets that are well written and would survive code review is even smaller. Stack overflow is good for getting an idea of what libraries exist. Good programmers use it for inspiration and move on to official docs from there (assuming they exist).

These systems are often trained on data obtained from driving the car around. I think the only real solution would be planning routes through more diverse neighborhoods. Although any company that is taking this seriously from a safety perspective has multiple radars and a top mounted LiDAR on their vehicles. Those sensors should be sufficient for detecting humans regardless of race even in a completely dark environment. Relying solely on camera data is just asking for problems for this and many other reasons.

I work in engineering. Every job I’ve ever had has been overtime exempt. Shit sucks.

I wasn’t comparing a midsized to a compact, I was pointing out that you’re full of shit for thinking that only massive SUVs can fit two car seats, because you absolutely are. Have you been inside a Prius? It’s just as long as a RAV4. The main loss of interior space is in the headroom. Not sure if you realize, but children in car seats don’t need that headroom. Not that most people do. I’m 6 feet tall and I fit in the backseat with a comfortable amount of headroom and legroom. Plenty of space for two car seats to fit comfortably.

I could comfortably fit two car seats in my Prius. You’re delusional if you think the truck is required for that.
