I … find it functionally superior (less water splashback) and also kinda aesthetically more pleasing than if it were centred (within the chosen parameters of colours/materials/designs … which bother me more, looks cheap).

I also find it dirty (prob right after the work was done).
I would rinse it a bit before posting pics.

… actually the offset might be for accessibility reasons - so people with mobility issues (eg in wheelchairs) can get to the faucet easier. Which is always a good design option imho.

It’s not mildly infuriating at all, it’s mildly pleasing.

Also, easier to share a bath without one person having their head squashed to side of tap. If you put on hot water, you’re not getting the pain as it runs on to your feet. This is an innovation.

Many baths here in the UK have it in the corner against the wall.

I know exactly what happened here having just done a renovation on a basement with a completely fucked up bathroom.

They re-used the existing piping and lines when replacing the tub and shower surrounds.

They wanted to save a few hundred dollars and/or effort of moving the pipes to center up with the prefab tub/surround, and just figured they could drill the hole into the surround for the shower attachments wherever.

They’re correct, but that doesn’t make them right.

More likely, there is a sistered stud directly in the center of the surround, and to fix it properly, they would have to tear out both sides of the wall.

Offsetting the valve to one side or the other, they don’t have to do any additional demolition, framing, or drywall.

      Source: been there, done that…

Showerhead seems like an issue. I guess if you can articulate it to point to the wall and the wall is well sealed it’s probably ok.

The wall has to be well sealed. This is better. The shower head is pointed away from the curtain. Less water on the floor.

I actually like it better this way, as I wouldn’t have to reach in as far to turn it on. I think having controls there and the spigot on the corner on the left would be best, though.

As ugly as it is, at least it works. I kind of like offset spigots, but this was obviously just a mistake/laziness.

That looks like the narrowest tub I’ve ever seen. I assume they renovated the place and made the bathroom smaller to add an extra bedroom or something, and they just shrank the wall without changing the plumbing.

Just a hunch, but probably a stud right in the middle and they either didn’t want to deal with it, or didn’t know how to move it. Makes sense if it’s someone watching a video and doing it themselves to save money.

What fresh hells is this? Non-centered plumbing? Your right to symmetry is being violated bro.

What’s wrong with it? Anyone wanna answer me or are you going to just keep clicking the little down arrow to feel superior?

Nah. It actually reduces problems. Shutoff is in easy reach from outside the tub. Showerhead points away from the curtain: less water outside the tub. It just annoys the hell out of symmetrical people.

It looks like it’s primarily aesthetic.

A few notes though… With the faucet and valve so close to the open side, the shower curtain could inconvenience adjusting the temperature or catch onto the handle if not paid attention to. If the shower head is also offset that much (not sure by the pic but a couple of easy fixes are available) it could make it more difficult to shower especially with having to stand in a tub.

Low rent? This would be $3000/Mo in NYC. Somehow landlords here manage to find the smallest half-tubs that don’t actually work for shit.
