That’s Sophie Chikirou of La France Insoumise (LFI), the leading French left-wing populist party. Apparently, she’s also in a relation with the party’s founder and long-term leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon, so also quite ‘prominent’.

Most left-wing populist parties in Europe are financed by Russia while most right-wing populist parties are financed by Russia.

They’re so obsessed with ‘overcoming the system’ that they don’t care whatsoever who to share the bed with to - allegedly - reach that goal.

That their great benefactor doesn’t want them to reach their - or any - goal at all but just plays them like a puppet master to sow constant dissent, is beyond their scope of understanding. Useful idiots.

The real problem is when you are only left with the choice between centrist neoliberal billionaire bootlickers, pro russian far right billionaire bootlickers or pro russian leftists (who you at least hope are not billionaire bootlickers).

They’re licking Putins boot more because he’s the russian dictator, not because he’s rich. Also, I’m not French and the german Left is not explicitly licking Putin’s boot at all, they’re just weirdly fixated on not fighting anybody under any circumstances, which I still believe they can be woken up from. If I can get a meaningful wealth tax out of them, I’m willing to work from there.

They’re licking Putins boot more because he’s the russian dictator, not because he’s rich.

The difference being? Both being a dictator and being rich are leading to the same thing: being powerful; and that’s the sole reason to get one’s boots licked.

and the german Left is not explicitly licking Putin’s boot at all

“At all” is probably a bit bold of a claim. Granted, with Wagenknecht leaving ship and taking her most avid followers with her, the most prominent “Russian” voice in that party is gone. But you still find a remarkably strong foundation of sympathies towards Russia in that party. No other normal party is as soft on Russia as them. That weird fixation of not giving Ukraine any weapons at all is exactly testament of trying to appease this part of the party that might have gotten quieter but still exists, while still fulfilling the expectations of especially the new influx of members/voters that are no longer filled with these crude nostalgic sympathies. I hope the Linke can overcome this but only time will tell.

Only if you’re not paying attention to the party, they always eagerly fit into the worst clichês of far-left. Always siding with dictators, Islamic terrorists, antissemitic propaganda etc… really much more similar to the RN then they’re supporters like to admit.

I’ve listened to Mélenchon when he came to Montreal, and I’ve listened to a few of his discours online afterwards. I did not hear any of the things you’re describing. I also don’t trust the accusations you’re making because it’s exactly the kind of shit neoliberal centrists have been accusing the Left of since the Iraq War, all the while actually doing all of the same things in practice. So I’m giving LFI the benefit of the doubt in general and I’m disappointed about this in particular.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon is not a dummy. He is never going to say something completely illegal. He is an immensely intelligent man. He uses dogwhisles. And you only notice those dogwhisles if you are carefully paying attention

I’ll give you a few examples.

          The Omar Mosque

French police raided the Mosque Omar in the 11th district of Paris

Immediatly, Melenchon posted this on social media:

French police breaking into a mosque. Humiliating muslims. Is this what you want? War of religions? How can you not hate a country doing this?

          Here is the thing.

Everyone in French intelligence heard about the Omar Mosque in the 11th district of Paris. And never in a good way.

This is one of the most extremist mosque in France:

In fact, the Omar Mosque had this extremism reputation for decades :

Mélenchon doesn’t give a fuck. He made a tweet that spread like wildfire online about the evil France humiliating ordinary muslims. Not honest, but creating resentment works. That’s a way to gain votes.

Here is another thing he did.

He publically accused journalist Ruth El Krief of insulting Islam/Muslims:

You can criticize Ruth El Krief on a lot of things. And that’s fine. But she never insulted Islam/Muslims. Never. NEVER. Jean-Luc Mélenchon knows that.

He posts a message on social media calling her a “Fanatic” insulting Islam. He posts this right in the beginning of the Gaza crisis. While a lot of people, especially in the muslim community, were shocked and emotional.

By publically accusing a Jewish figure of disrespecting Muslims, he can appear as “the defender” of humiliated muslims. He gains many votes.

Right after his tweet, El Krief received thousands of messages threatening to rape her and cut her throat. She now lives under police protection:

This man knows exactly what he is doing.

We can thank them both for another delay with the Mercosur deal, just to give a recent example. Putin puppets is just the start of their evilness.

The very sad thing is that in France it is the Left doing this. She is a member of La France insoumise, Melanchon’s party.

From my understanding, the other problem is that Macron, in the middle of two Putin/fascist parties, is preferring to deal with the historical Fascists.

What puzzles me is that I heard that Melanchon is counting on the votes of young Muslims and other second generation immigrants and I cannot see of any of them would be ok with this.

Is it just me, or does it look AI generated? Here are the things that look off:

    • The wind is blowing the flag, but not her hair (it remains perfectly still for the entire duration).
    • The tree leaves in the background look like they are phasing/blending when they move with the wind?
    • The woman holding the phone in the right of this video seems to be attempting to record, but is not pointing the camera in a reasonable direction?
    • There is almost nothing going on in the video apart from the main character.
    • They are standing in the woods with speakers at a rally?? Why not in the city? And even a park in the city should have some cityscape in the background?
    • Did this happen recently? Green leafy trees are not in season in France yet, I believe? Didn’t see the timestamp; it’s from 13th of May 2025.
    • Behind the woman that is trying to film, there is a flag in the beginning to the video that seems to walk away by itself? And towards the end of the video the woman behind the woman recording is walking away the same direction, and you can see her head (height disparity with whoever would potentially be carrying the aforementioned flag).

Anyone have other independent sources on this event?

Edit: Added things that looks weird.

Edit 2: Alright, this is not AI. It’s unfortunate one has to be so skeptical, but that’s the world we now find ourselves in…
